Hi all you studiers.
I am studying (trying to finish) my course in Financial Services through Open Learning. I will complete cert iv. I have been doing a 1 year course for 5 years!!
I had 2 children when i started and now have 4. Now i have the 2 youngest in daycare 3 days a week and i'm charging.
I would like to work at home as a bookkeeper just to earn a bit more income.
To be honest, my preferred course would be social sciences, that is my passion but i'm being practical - it's a quick course (well it should be) and i can start working.
But...i'd love to hear of other people studying financial services or who have finished!

I am studying Accounting Cert IV (might be same thing). Where abouts are you? I do 5 subjects. Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Commercial Law, Budgeting, Office Tax.
At the moment I'm trying to do an assessment for Commercial Law. Not easy when your addicted to Bubhub!!!!
What subjects are you doing, and what have you done?

Apply health and safety practices, Prepare and bank receipts, Process journal entries, Maintain daily financial/business documents, Maintain financial/business documents, Maintain financial records, prepare financial reports, process payroll, set up and operate a computerise accounting system.
Still need to do 2 more subjects for cert III, then move onto cert iv. 6 subjects there.

Who are you studying through?
How are you enjoying it?
What do you want to do when you have finished?

Hey, I study through Tafe. I'm currently doing CERT IV but by the end of the year I will have done the Diploma.
Last year I did Cert III. I did Accounting 1 & 2, Communicate in the workplace, Work in a finacail services invironment, MYOB, Business computing, OH&S. I got 4 Distinctions, 1 credit and 2 ungraded passes. I did it part-time night and this year I'm doing it full time. I'm finding it really difficult to stay on top of everything. On wednesday I missed my commercial law class because DS is sick (life of a single parent- no-one else to pick him up) and it really threw me. I went to 2nd commercial law class today and had NO idea what they were talking about!
This year is the first yr tafe is doing it under the new system of modules so like you the modules are called things like prepare back reconciliations and maintain financial records but we still refer to them as the class name of Financial accounting.
What 2 subjects do you need to complete cert III?
I have only just realised what I want to do in the field of accounting. I would like to become a Forensic Accountant. I think it's a new feild and I will be researching more about it later on in the yr. Next year I hope to go to University of NSW to study, but will also be researching that later in the yr as well.

You must be motivated to study with a 2 year old. That's great. Just keep at it, you'll pass sounds like you've been doing really well :yelclap: from your marks and you can always get extra help from a teacher. i know it's tough I have a two year old as well but she is now in day care 3 days a week with her brother.
I wish i could get through it all by the end of the year but it seems that i might be at it for a while. Studying from home seems to take longer and i don't put any extra time in besides the 3 days - minus the cleaning and bubhub etc.
I was looking at the Diploma and wondering whether to go there?
The course wasn't graded - just a pass or fail - when i did all my other subjects which was disappointing. But now they are and i've just handed in a test. I was thinking that if i don't get a good mark i'm not cut out for it, but if i do i'll know i'm on the right path. That may sound really stupid, but i want to know that i can work in the industry without struggling.
What will you be studying at Uni. Accounting i spose but will you be majoring (if that's the word) in forensic accounting. Sounds fascinating, what is it?
The subjects i have to do are 'Use technology in the workplace' and elective probably 'Maintain asset and inventory records', it is a core module of cert iv.
Don't think i'm in for the long haul with the study thing though. i just want to start working.
