Hi Everyone
Just wondering if anyone knows much about taking Cartia during pregnancy to lower blood pressure. I have had high blood pressure since having my first baby and I was advised to take Cartia in my next pregnancy but now that I have just found out I am pregnant am doubting if I should. Does anyone know if taking it can be harmful to my baby?
Any advise would be really helpful.

Check with a Dr. I took a quarter of an aspirin tablet when I was pregnant with my eldest to prevent possible small blood clots preventing the placenta from causing problems. Aspirin thins the blood which is why it's not recommended int he last 3 months of pregnancy because you are about to bleed for birthing. It's probably something you need to weigh up with the high blood pressure issue.
Cartia is new since then and it's basically a lower dose aspirin so you don't have to cut up the tablets like I used to. Interesting that it is the same price as the regular dose though so perhaps just cheaper to buy the regular and do what I did
I have a blood clottig disorder, which caused miscarriages, I was on cartia one daily with my sons pg, right until 36 weeks, he is fine, and again with this pg, just stopped taking them last week. They just want you to stop taking it at the end, incase you need a c-section, to avoid the extra bleeding.
The only side effects I had was easy bruising, and slow healing of cuts, no problem for bubs. BUT I wouldnt be taking it without checking with a dr first.
And for interest sake, you cant take aspirin during pg, this is only a very small dose, and only used in special circumstances, for pain relief, aspirin is NOT recommended.

I am on Cartia for a PE (lung clots) and have been told to go off them however I am pretty sure you can use Cartia until your last trimester under medical supervision

Cartia is a diffrent dose, but it's also enteric coated which means its more gentle on those with stomach problems which may be a factor with the OP. If this is what's prescribed it's for a reason, never safe to just switch to something else without checking with a Dr first. That and the regular aspirin come in 300mg tablets, half is obviously 150mg, whereas the Cartia are 100mgs.

Have they considered Clexane for you? I had a DVT and was on this for pg #1 as it is perfectly safe, you just need to stop a few weeks before edd in case of haemmorhage.
As a pp mentioned I'm not sure aspirin is safe in pg, obviously there are exceptions to everything but I'd be checking with your Dr.
Good luck.:flowerz:
