View Full Version : Easter - Alternatives to Chocolate Eggs
Well I know its a month away but I've begun thinking about Easter....
Bub's will be 8 mths old, and I REALLY don't want her having chocolate at this age... which I am sure the doting grandparents will just not be able to resist....
What alternatives are there to chocolate easter eggs that would mean Pip can still be a part of the easter celebration and have a small treat that won't do her too much harm????
Any ideas anyone????
you can always do what we Greeks do...
paint hard boiled eggs!! you can decorate them with lots of different colors and patterns!!
it's actually alot of fun

i dnt really know but this is what i did you might wanna try too.
when my 2nd baby hd her 1st easter i brought a few little eggs (kinder surprise) and i got her a doll that came in a basket and is dressed up in a bunny out fit she was nearly 12 months old but wanted the toys more.
We give small gifts at easter as well as chocolate.
For DS's first easter well, technically his second easter but he was just 4 weeks for his first... He got a small amount of chocolate and a soft toy bunny from his nanny and Poppy and we got him a book about easter and the "thats not my bunny" touch and feel book.
Any other chocolate he got we put aside and ate ourselves   How mean are we !!!???
It is a hard one. Nix is getting some toys this year, no easter eggs.
What about Carob easter eggs, i am pretty sure you can get them, just not sure where.

One of my children cant eat chocolate so a lot of the time she will get lollies etc. For an 8 month old thats probably not really appropriate.......how about marshmallows.....Last year I managed to find some in the shape of bunny rabbits.
Also for my nieces when they last year....I got 1 a bunny rabbit costume...she looked so cute and the year before that I got her a Mr Potato Head that was dressed up like a rabbit. It didnt have small pieces like when we were younger either.

I think from memory I got my big bag from Kmart... Big W would have them as well as Target too. Darell Lea do have marshmallows but Ive never got any from there...only licorice
We aren't letting him have any sugary things... We found a really cool Pixar 'Cars' cloth book/pillow.... that is what Tyler is getting.... and he will get some sort of toy like that for years to come!!! lol
The longer he is off sugar... the better!!! lol

Have you guys seen the chocolate chip Hot Cross Buns from Baker's Delight???:D
Asher will be around the same age and he won't be getting any chocolate or marshmallows or anything like that. He can have some hot cross bun and some seasonal fruit and perhap a lick of a bit of chocolate.
He's too young to care really.

Last year I bought some plastic eggs from a craft shop, that were in 2 pieces. I put small toys and lollies in them instead of chocolate. At 8 months he'd need help breaking them open and would possibly be more interested in playing with the eggs than whatever is inside them. Our eggs are now bath toys.

hey kaz you can still get egg cups with a matching spoon, and just 1 little egg in it. i've seen them in woolies.
I'm a bit stumped too, i'm sure whatever i get mr p estella will pinch anyway. i was just going to get him one very small choc bunny. but i'm holding out n case i see something better.
I have this issue as well as my DD hates choclate and also lollies. Last year she got 2 bananas! (it was a luxury when they were really dear) I have never seen her so excited as she was allowed to eat them all at once instead of stretching them out as we had been becuase of the price! LOL
I have no idea what i will get her this year, we have taken to taking her to the Reject shop and telling her she can pick out a present - she picks 3 or 4 things and it usually only comes to $20 tops and she loves it. She has sooo much fun. We did this for christmas too as she didn't need anything as her birthday is late October.
Oooo ooooo.... I found the perfect thing at Woolies today while doing groceries.....
Go Natural have a small yoghurt bunny!!!! So that's what I'm gonna get for madam.... and maybe some cute bunny ears... they will always be good to start a dress up box with!!
