He was dragged off the street by armed men and forcibly circumcised - a practice not allowed in the Mandaean religion.

He is 19 and is now unlikely ever to find a bride from his own faith.

I absolutely agree. The entire situation and all of the violence and violation of not just the children, but adult men and women as well is beyond tragic.

IMO, religion's not the problem...it's forcing beliefs onto the bodies of others without their consent. Honestly and truly, if any informed, consenting adult wants to sacrifice their right arm to a diety, I don't care. Their body, their choice.
