Hello to everyone that replied to me previously.

I really appreciate your kind replies and have enjoyed reading your experiences. I'm really sorry, but Tye is a very demanding baby and rarely do I have time to log-on and be able to reply in the one sitting! I have, however, read all your replies and thank you all so much.

Well, now Tye is almost 6mths, we are finally going in to have the lip and anterior palate repaired next week, 13th March. I know it has to happen, but I'm a little apprehensive/scared/sooky/terrified etc. Just want my darling baby boy to be o.k.!

Thanks again girls, I will let you know how we go?!?!

Sarah

I remember feeling the same way when Michael had his first opp (lip) I ask if we could cancel it and felt everyone (in the whole world) should just except him crazy I know.
Has anyone spoke to you about the possibility of mourning the change in your baby’s apperance?
This is something I was not warned about I have heard of other parents experiencing this as well.
It was a big shock when I seen Michael for the first time with all the swelling they really do look like a different baby.
It took me a while to get use to his new face because that what he had, his nose was pulled down and didn’t sit up the way it did, this changed the shape of his eye’s also his mouth of cause was different. It was like I had a different baby of cause I knew he was Michael and loved him and felt the same I just wish someone told me how different my baby would look.

Keep us posted and I will be thinking of you all.

Cathy

:hugs: Just wanted to wish you all well with everything.

I agree with Cathy on the mourning part, I missed Brookes wide smile really bad for months afterwards. :( Take lots of before pics.

Hello We are home!!!:smiliedance:

Tye had his lip and anterior palate repaired on 13th March. The gorgeous surgeons at RCH Brisbane - Justin Perron and Raymond Goh, were absolutely awesome! They did such a wonderful job and are so friendly and speak to you like normal humans - not doctors. I really hope they are both there to do Tye's palate in July-ish! Couldn't ask for better Surgeons!!!
Unfortunately, Tye's nose seperated on one side, they discovered when they removed the sutures, (common when it's a wide cleft) and became a bit infected and yuck, subsequently requiring an additional hospital stay and a course of antibots. His nostril has collapsed a wee bit. He did have stents in, but the surgeons took them out, as they felt it would irritate the area. They said that they will be able to repair his nose when they do the palate as he has alot of "tissue they can play with" I trust them completely after what they have done to repair his lip! To those beautiful young men - we will forever be greatful.
Thank you, girls for preparing me. I did cry when I first saw Tye. My huge gappy smile was gone. Now I have a cheeky little bugger who can purse his lips closed when he doesn't want something! But he has a beautiful new smile!

Thanks again for your support

Luv Sarah xxxxx:hugs:

:hugs: I am so glad to hear it went well, aside from the nose collapsing. I hope the next surgery goes just as well.

Thank you for your reply :)

We went back and saw Tye's Plastic Surgeon (Justin) yesterday and he was really happy with the way Tye's nose is healing. He is off the antibots now and Justin doesn't want to see us for a couple of months when we will talk about Tye's palate repair. Tentative date is 17th July at this stage!

New pic on profile was taken 10 days after surgery - they did such a great job!
