Did you hold your own or did someone hold one for you? Karl & I were thinking of throwing our own to offically announce our engagement but I have no idea where to start.
Any ideas?

Our parents wanted to do ours but as we were just about to have a housewarming anyway we decided to combine the two and do our own.

Personally, I'd never throw our own again.. so much work before, so much mess afterwards... lol Thank god you only get engaged once

Get a caterer = depending on your budget, you can low key or really classy... spit roast to three course sit down. I think cocktail style is the best because everyone mingles and you dont need to hire chairs. hire the staff to stay on and clean up afterwards. its usually only $100 or so and well worth it!

If kids are welcome then make it a lunch/afternoon thing...also will cut the alcohol costs down...

We threw our own one-it was realy lowkey only like 20 people,at my place.I did the catering and we just put on some alcohol.Didnt cost much.
Looking back I wish we had done it a bit bigger but I had just had my 21st which was HUGE and was pregnant so couldnt really be bothered spending massive amounts of time and money planning it!!Anyways DF had a great night-he was drunk as a skunk and went out partying all night:rolleyes:

hrm okay I'd throw mine again if we invited less people. We had at least 70 adults and 20 children!

Hiring a caterer is a good suggestion too to save some work and I would DEFINITELY hire a cleaner if DIY again :)

we held our own engagment party, we were getting married OS and most of our friends wouldnt be comming so it was like a minni celebration here. We just caught the water taxi over to North Straddie and had it at a place called The Little Ships Club. We just had a big BBQ, pig on the spit all that stuff, we used the outside area it's right on the water, every thing was free, we put money over the bar and hired a band... It was an awesome day and cost hardly any thing. The club is right next to where the water taxi comes in so getting there was no drama- we all stayed the weekend on Straddie, booked a holiday house- The club has a bus too so they were happy to pick us us and drop off!

We combined our engagement party with the reception of DS christening.

We ordered food from a catering company but mainly all DF's aunties wanted to cook (big greek family).

Think "My big fat greek wedding" (the movie) when the 2 families meet and they're all out on the lawn...that was our engagement party except I have a huge family too.

We decided to have it at DF's parents acerage. Then we decided on food and guest list (We had about 200 people). We then picked times, invites etc.

The day before and the morning of were totally hectic with set up (We hired tables and chairs, helium etc).

My advice....Have a smaller one!! Easier to organise!!

We didn't have one, nor did we want one. Besides, we had no one to invite, lol.

We haven't had one and I would quite like to but don't really know where to start.

I would like to have it at home, I am a homebody, except I HATE our house and don't want it here.

So we probably won't.
