Thanks Giz!

I agree - certain foods over there do taste different. I think all the veggies have a richer taste to them (kumra, pumpkin and potatoes) in particular.

Oh yeah! I'm going to have fish & chips for sure - it is so much cheaper over there than it is here too!

Have to go visit the cuz's house for the hugi :D

I'm off to Hamilton where my mum (mum's side) and one of my sisters and her family live. I was born in Hamilton.

If you are going to NZ you have to splurge on at least one meal of white bait fritters - nothing in Australia will ever beat those!

On the drive to Hamilton don't forget to divert off the motorway at Pocono for a huge icecream.

Don't forget to buy a good supply of Sunshine Pegs! Aussie ones are cr@p (cr@p) and get really brittle in the sun quickly ...

Krispa Corn Chips - the puffed corn ones ... salt and vinegar mmmmm

Eta chips - the big taste always gets through

Whitlocks tomato sauce

Pig out on kumara and pumpkin - they are really bland here :(

Buy a leg of Hogget or mutton ... so much better and tastier than lamb

Get plenty of the marshmallow easter eggs with yolks

And definitley ... stop at Pokeno for an ice-cream! And a real burger - one with melted unprocessed cheese, tasty egg, yummy salad, scrumptious meat pattie and bacon with flavour! *wipes drool from chin*

Shop heaps at Farmers and T & T ... come home with a bag full of Teeny Weeny clothing!

I just got back on Sunday, as space was limited I bought back chips (O'ryans, burger rings and grain waves), marshmellow yoke easter eggs and pinky easter eggs, nestles reduced cream dip and that was about all :(
My first meal was fish and chips. I also got to have a roast lamb.
I couldn't get over how much house prices have gone up since I left!

Oh man, my mouth is watering!

Hubby has a thing for Grain Waves and Griffins choc chippie biscuits and watties tomato sauce.

When I was pregnant I had massive cravings for tomato munchos and the large apricot yoghurt cookie time cookies. There's also nothing like a choc chip cookie time heated in the microwave!

I really miss my kiwi fish and chips too, especially the price. Why are they so expensive over here? I want to be able to order '2 scoops' of chips! Join forces with me and let's start a kiwi fish and chip shop chain!

We 'import' maggi onion soup with any visitors to and fro across the tasman, to make our dip. How weird you can get french onion here but not just plain onion.

BTW, SPAR shops in Brisbane have started stocking kiwi & sth african foods - rather expensive though!

Shakey
18-03-2007, 14:13
waitingformotherhood thanks for the link, we have a kiwi shop here on the cost too, well I only know of one in southport, i'm sure there is another one on the coast as well, I try not to buy from there cause its so expensive

oh i've got a couple of extra things to add

hard boiled sweets - especailly the acid drops and raspberry drops
green onion chippies are a must

Reading your YUMMY answers out to my Kiwi Df, He's getting goosepimples also...

We're heading to NZ on Wed to see family and I'm going to put on an order for a roast lamb...Yummy!!!

Chocolate in NZ is so much better...We also LOVE...
Perky Nanas
Pineapple Lumps
Pinky bars
Marshmallow easter eggs with yolk
L&P
Nestle scorched almonds
Milk Arrowroot biscuits
Sultana pasties

Also the Nada Bakery in Johnsonville is a must everytime we head back for a Raspberry jam turnover:D

Shakey
18-03-2007, 14:28

Well I'm off to NZ this Wednesday for almost 2weeks!! Can't wait to see family and friends :smiliedance:

My main reason for going back is to move our stuff out of storage, and up to my Mums house (Kaiwaka, Northland) and to also bring quite a bit back with me...I hope I have some room for a few kiwi menu specials like:
Whitlocks Tomato Sauce!
Lift Plus!
Chocolate..of course!

I can't wait to pig out on Fish n Chips, and get my nana to cook a roast lamb mmmmm she's the best at that! Oh yeah and I have to get some Kumara chips from Burger fuel, I think it will just be a holiday of eating at this rate!!
