What movies were you disappointed in recently? What movies were better than you thought they would be?

I was disappointed in Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I guess after watching the Asassin and some of these spy/gov. asassin movies where they put in a lot of research on what real asassins are like, I was a bit disappointed this was nothing like that. It was an okay brain drain, but nothing spectacular.

I wasn't expecting much out of Deuce Bigalow: Eurpean Vacation, but it ended up being funnier than the first one. Not one to watch with the kiddies iykwim. Some of the names they came up with are just hysterical and of course, entirely fictional. I still laugh every time I think of a Portugese Breakfast or a Turkish Delight. I have no idea what they are, but they're funny. lmao. :p

'Birth' with Nicole Kidman. I really didnt think she could do a bad movie until I saw this. I think if you compacted the dialogue you could easily squeeze it into 20 minutes. It seemed like 1.5hrs of people staring at each other

I know I'm going to be whupped for this one but ....

Titanic

It was just filled with hours and hours of cliches and I knew what was going to happen at the end of it. No element of surprise.

I love a good chick flick and indeed, like nothing better than sitting down with a glass of wine and having a good old cry but this one bored me silly.

Supermum - what kind of surprises did you want in Titanic? The one where the ship misses the iceberg and sails off into the sunset? ;) ;)

LOL carls - I'm a sad human being... but I was hoping for a different ending ( I was shattered by Romeo and Juliet too.. even though I KNEW the ending!!!)

I was DISGUSTED by Vanilla Sky ... I couldn't even watch it through till the end.... it was utter crap... I am not the biggest Tom fan.... but ... (sigh) DEFINATELY one of the worse films I have ever seen..

I'm with you Supermum (on the cliche thing)!

But what bugs me most is when a great film - great storyline, great actors, a bit of suspense and drama - has to end with a soppy and cheesy love scene, it just spoils it for me! (eg - The Bourne Identity or was it the 2nd one, can't remember, but you get my drift anyway)

I also hate predictable movies, where you know what is going to happen next, or you can tell what the ending is going to be when the movie has only just begun! (eg - Maid in Manhatten).

I like a movie that tells a story that is actually believable!

Actually I am happy that i haven't seen Titanic!!

For me House of 1000 Corpses was pure and utter garbage and DP had to stop me from trying to find some way of contacting Rob Zombie so I coulf demand my money back.

I had the exact opposite experience, Veve. I thought it was going to be utter crap, and actually loved it. I watched it twice!

Its just not my idea of a decent movie not to mention it is about 3 hours long and I can't sit still that long.........

Titanic dissapointed me as I hate sappy love stories, was hoping the movie CALLED Titanic was ABOUT the Titanic, not some drawn out sob story and "oh yeah, by the way, did we mention the boat sank!

Same deal with Pearl Harbour, long drawn out love story and "oh yeah, did we forget to mention the bombings!"

Romeo and Juliet didn't do the story justice IMO, wasn't bad for a Leo movie, but I was dissapointed.

The chronicles of Riddick was pretty lame, loved pitch black though.

Oceans 12, what can I say, severe plot shortage or what!

And whatever the movie about 2 people lost at sea *yawn*

Resident Evil had a few good moments, but they were too few and far between, the rest was like watching some badly done old zombie movie, ya know walking corpses moaning "brains! Brains!"

War of the worlds, I am a HUGE fan of the book, radio broadcast and thought for its time the first movie was pretty good, but the remake was just pittiful! Did they even READ the book?

There's other movies that were boring, lame, too soppy, or lacking plot, but I have better things to do than whinge ;)

Oh yes I forgot about that one - so crap I cant remember the name of it either!! They could have thrown some good shark attacks or a gruesome death in there. LAME!!!!!

Just to add to the winge about s*** movies, have you seen Starship Troopers? OMG that has to be the crappiest movie ever. So cheesy.

Speaking of cheesy, how about the ending of Unbreakable??? Nice one Brucie, hanging up your coat like you are a superhero

I am also a member of the group who did not bother seeing the Titanic.

On Channel 2 last they had Your Favourite Movies - The top movie as voted by the Australian public was the Lord of the Rings Triology.

Could not get into them personally but a lot people must love them.

I watched that last night too - I couldn't believe that LOTR was the fave. I haven't seen any of them, for some reason I've avoided them like the plague. I was so disappointed I walked out of the room. I loved all the others in the list, which were:

1. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
2. Amelie
3. Blade Runner
4. The Shawshank Redemption
5. Donnie Darko
6. Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
7. Pulp Fiction
8. The Princess Bride
9. Gone With The Wind
10. Fight Club

and for the top 100 click here (http://www.abc.net.au/myfavouritefilm/)

BTW - I loathed Titanic as well. Boring as bat-s***.

I was also really disappointed in Castaway. I was SO hoping it was going to be good but I nearly fell asleep and got the giggles when he started talking to Wilson the ball.

Wilson! Come back Wilsoooooonnnn!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I enjoyed Starship troopers, it was supposed to be cheesy, I thought it was pretty funny! Certainly not one of the best Sci Fi movies but a bit of a chuckle!

Oh I don't know Carls ... maybe a twist of some sort? I mean everyone knows the boat sinks but they could have woven some sort of sub plot into this surely. Sharks in a feeding frenzy aft while they were escaping the carnage???

And the bit where she's up the front of the darn vessel with arms outstretched ... hair flying in the breeze, free for the first time in her life, feeling alive with every inch of her being. VOMITOUS! Umm - has anyone ever been up the front of a ship when it's going full steam ahead? Your eyes are squinting, your hair is flapping in the gale force winds and your cheeks wobble (oh sorry, that's me with my head out the window)

Ah yes, the dulcet tones of Celine boomtish ... how could I ever forget? BLURGH.

carls
05-12-2005, 13:55
Ok, so we want her at the end of the boat, flab wobbling in the wind, maybe a seagull ****ting on her, and we also want to see a shark feeding frenzy when the ship sinks. Maybe throw a bit of Simpsons in there - the Titanic can be carrying crates of hot pants when it sinks, and everyone ends up singing "Who likes short shorts? We like short shorts!".

Definately have to agree that "Birth" &"Mr and Mrs Smith", were disappointing for me. I was waiting for a full on sex scene they (the media) had raved on about and I didn't see none!!! Only a little one. "Million Dollar baby" too The hospital scene sort of dragged out somewhat..."Troy" was another one I was real disappointed in. Yeah it was an ok perv but the acting was poopsy! Hm thats all i can think of right now.

You girls made me laugh reading how Titanic should have gone down ( pardon the pun)...trippers. :D

Was there a movie called, "the Stepford Wives"? Did that have Nicole Kidman in it and were the women robot housewives or some garbage? I didnt like that one, obviously. :D
A good movie is The Interpretor with her and Sean Penn, who is a great actor I think, by the way. Mystic River was a goodie too.:)

LOL! I'm glad someone else thinks Leonard DiCaprio is a man child, he's 30-something and looks 14.

Titanic - again I thought I was all alone in disliking this movie, should have known my ex was wrong for me when he went back and saw it 2x

I didn't like 'Eyes Wide Shut', for the obvious annoying Tom Cruise reasons, but I thought it was just weird...and I agree, 'Troy' was great for eye candy - but that was all.

Isnt life really like a box of chocolates?
Fruity, Nutty...and pathetically soft and distateful inside?
OM.

and the girl who goes and lives her life and has fun has to die of AIDS to show that you're better off being a good girl.

have to add 'troy' to the mix. unintentionally funny.

WOW Seems like forever since I actually watched a movie that wasnt animated!!! But the last movie I was really disappointed in was "The Day After Tomorrow".

Oh I loathe remakes, war of the worlds I didn't touch, got my dad to watch hitchhikers guide to the galaxy(avid fan), but hated the movie.
Won't go near them, or those ripping off old movies unless done tastefully (can you tell I haven't seen a movie in a VERY long time!!).

The one I thought of recently was dodgeball, my sis bought it... It's alright but the ending... Oh My Floppy Bits! How Boring, How Stupid, How completely *censored* hollywood!

Ruined the whole experience of having blokes getting hurt

I'm a huge James Patterson fan, but I've got to say "Along Came a Spider".

I saw it at the movies when it came out and at the end I said "Is that it?" I was soooo disappointed in the ending.
