Hi, my DS is almost 10mths old. I was just wondering if he should be saying any words yet? A girl at mothers group told me her DD is saying Mummy and Daddy and she is only 9mths.
At what age did your child say their first word? And what was it?

My dd is 7mths old and goes around saying da da. Its probably only a sound though.Well thats what I told my hubby anyway. If she starts saying ma ma now that will definately be a word. ;)
I totally agree jasminesmum about the dada thing. My DD is almost 7 months and that is all she says. I insist it is just playing with noises seeing I am a single parent and would prefer she said mama, but when she does, it is a word. Ha!

After the usual dadda/mumma/nana thing at about 8 months I think his first real word was "Ball" at about 11 months.
Thats still his fave word "Ball ball ball...................." I think his obsessed LOL :D

My oldests sons first word was ball too. Everything was a ball, oranges apples eggs.
He now is a keen cricket player who plays club cricket on Saturdays and representative cricket on Sundays. He would play everyday if he could.
Maybe your little boy is going to be a keen sportsman when he grows up. :)

Raleigh's first word was Dad Dad Dad. Now its just a variety of noises with dadada included :)
Kai is 8 months and says mum mum, dad dad, bub bub and occasionally ta. It has only been recently it has become more word association and not just sayin words. He has been making sounds since probably 6/7 months but every baby is different.

My youngest is almost 18mths old and he has said "mum" on only 2 occasions!
He says Dadda, Jesse, thank you, here you go, hi there, bye bye, look, what is that...but hardly ever mum (I guess it's because I'm always there, what's he need to call me for!)
We were at kinder the other day picking up my older son and one of the mums commented on Lucas saying "thank you" - I told her "My boys may be feral, but you can't fault them on their manners!LOL"

For DS1 it was "dadda" and I was crushed, I mean I was the one with him 24/7 how could he! :)
Then for DS2 it was "mumma" - aaawwww!
Most people don't believe me but I'm SURE you ladies are not so judgemental!! LOL
My Sons first Christmas he was all of 10 months and came out with "nanta taus" pointing at his toy Santa. They were the first ledgible words apart from the babbles of a baby. We have been trying to shut him up ever since ... I swear I have never known a BOY to talk more than his sister .... or more than me for that matter!! LOL
My daughters first word was "more??????" in relation to food of course!!!

Aside from some babble that I tried to convince myself was Mum or Dada, my DD's first clear and repeated word was "Angie", the name of the dog my parents were looking after. That was at 10.5 months. For months after that every dog she saw was an Angie :)
DS started saying Dadda at about 7 months and Mama about a week after. He tends to say Dadda when he is happy and Mama when he is upset or wants something! He has said hello a couple of times but it is not very often.
Hi Tinma DD was 7mths and DS was 8mths when they both said Dada. In general girls are a lot more verbal and speak earlier. I wouldn't be too concerned but if he is still not making word sounds at 12 mths it wouldn't hurt to get his hearing tested.

Well here is the cleverest bubba- my daughter said "CAR" at 3 mths..... really!!!
Oh ok- it was a sneeze while she was "ahhh"ing- but together it sounded like C-ahhh!!!
She hasn't made any formal noise/words yet! Just lots of squeals, ahhes and bubbles!!! But then again she is only 5 mths!!

My lil one screams out DADDY whenever he gets home! He sometimes (on rare occassions) says mummy and he also sayd Amar (grandma), dog, bye n bubba.
Dad and Daddy for both of them, PJ still hasn't said Mum yet, though he says Na for Nathan...

Ry said 'Dadda' at about 8 months and then followed with 'shooozzz' (shoes) and 'Soh' (sock) at about 11 months.
He now talks non-stop (finally saying Mummy at 15 months....). But when he sees someone new, he always points down to his feet and says 'shhoooozzzzz!!!!'. :)
I nearly forgot .... from abour 5 months my daughter was saying her name .... or at least a string of sounds that were her name " ahhhhh....laaaaa.....naaaaa " = ALANA!!!!!!!!

My DS was saying "dada" and "mumma" at 8 months...now at 12 months he says
"car", "oh dear" , "all gone", "ta" and "wow"....
If anyone sneezes he tries to copy the sound with something like
"aaaaaaah titch"......v.cute!!
When DF was away when DS was 9 months old I would point to photos around the house with DF in them and say "dada"...so he thinks all photos are called "dada"...
:)
My DS was saying `dada and muma' at 8 months too! But his words after included `duck', `car,' `ta,' `gone,' `bye bye.'
Very big talker now, for a boy anyway. Speaking in 4-5 word sentences and having conversations.
Trust me, once they start, you'll wish they hadn't (sometimes anyway lol). :)

My boy started saying Dadda round the 7mth mark, Mamma followed 3days later & has now started with Daddy in the last week or so & he is 9mths today yay ! He gets excited & reaches out saying Daddy when my partner gets home but will reserve Mamma for when he wants me to pick him up or he is upset & only wants me. He is trying to say Ta & Bubba now also.
Dont stress over whether your bubs isnt up to the "norm" as my bub hasnt even started to crawl yet as he is quite happy rolling around to get somewhere but there is a little girl at our mothers group who is a day older than him & has been crawling since she was 6mths !
They do their own thing in their own time :)
