I was wondering if anyone knew of a good solution to this?

I bought a product that had to stay in her hair for 3 days, I couldn't wash her head! Finally she got a good bathing yesterday and this morning it looks as though nothing has changed.

She did flake quite a bit, but it all seems to be back??

My dd had cradle cap when she was about a month old.
She didn't have it a great deal so I just rubbed olive oil into her scalp and left it there for the day. I had to do it a couple of times before it all cleared up.

She did look like Elvis with her oily hair for a little while but at least it worked.

I also used olive oil for my son's cradle cap, I left it on and then very gently used a soft comb through his hair.

I used Johnson's baby oil quite generously over the scalp when both mine were babies and it really helped to soften the cradle cap. I then removed it with a soft brush.
DS2 had it quite bad, so I used to leave the baby oil on his scalp overnight.

I used to smear my babies heads with vaseline just before I put them down for the night, put a hat on them and put them to bed.

The next morning I would gently scrape their heads with a piece of cardboard and then wash their hair.

It was a gradual process, but within a week the cradle cap had gone. One it had gone, I would put a small amount of oil (whatever was on hand) in the water I rinsed their hair with.

Olive oil and vaseline overnight worked for us too. It took a while, but once we started using a really fine toothed comb, it disappeared quicker.

I found rubbing olive oil in before bath and then washing with baby shampoo worked well.

Another one I tried that also worked was from Kas Cooke's Kidwrangling book.
Mix 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda with around half a teaspoon water to make a paste. Rub it into baba's scalp with a cotton wool ball and leave on for 5 mins. Wash the head with baby shampoo. Gently comb through the baby's hair if it is combable or else rub the scalp gentrly to loosen the flakes so they fall off, or wait for them to fall off by themselves.

Thanks for that everyone.

I just had a go with some baby oil and her soft brush, the majority of it is gone..
Will probably leave oil in tonight and brush again..

It's good DD loves having her hair brushed! :D

Hi Mumforone

I use a product called Gaia bath oil on my little guy.....I started using it for his Eczema and luckily it also cleared his cradle cap up!!

Olive Oil!

Rub it on in the morning/evening and then wash it off in the next bathtime. you find you will be able to gently scrape the cradle cap off or use a comb to gently get it moving.

Also, if you are washing bubs hair, maybe limit it to only once every 4 or so days.

Hope you have some luck!

I see this is an old inquiry... however if anyone is still looking for a solution to cradle cap, this works. Phisoderm... Regular phisoderm..... I washed my daughters head with this and she smelled good, it lathers, she was never oily. It worked beautifully. I just used it every day till the cradle cap dissappeared.. then I would use it periodically to prevent it from coming back. :D ;)

I just looked at your profile. Is your bub 5mo? I have an 8mo with a lot of dark hair and it's hard to see, but she keeps getting scaly stuff on her scalp. I've never been able to get completely rid of it, but I used some anti-dandruff shampoo on her 2 nights ago out of curiosity and her scalp is clean now. (let's see how long it lasts, though). Don't know if you should try that in case it is too harsh, but I'm happy with it.

Pure olive oil....that's what the CHN told me. Bubs didn't actually have cradle cap though, but was starting to get a bit dry on the scalp. The olive oil cleared all that up nicely. :)

I have had proven easy results with grapeseed oil. Rub it in, leave for about an hour or two and then wipe gently with a partially wet face cloth.

Apparently, petroleum jelly rubbed on the scalp and left overnight is meant to be easy to remove the next morning with a soft brush.

Any vegetable oil will do the trick although cradle cap is only a problem cosmetically. It doesn't actually have any adverse effects on baby and will disappear in time. Remember also that products like baby oil and vaseline are made using byproducts of the oil industry. Effectively you are putting a petrol based product on your baby and also supporting our oil industries who already steal money from us through petrol and oil for our cars. They make all this extra money from products such as vaseline and any mineral based bath oil.

PS. I'm not trying to attack anyone (please don't take it personally), just letting people know the impact of this issue.

Ok so i use sorbeline and a baby brush/comb. Cream on first leave for awhile them comb/brush hair and found that must comes of, or after a bath i do the same with the comb/brush and it gets most off.
