Playgroup/New Mothers Group?

I have a 10mth old boy. My mothers group has effectively disbanded with mums having gone back to work and I am just wondering whether I should try and join another mothers group by contacting the local clinic or whether a playgroup would be more appropriate. Have other people found that mothers groups fall apart once mums go back to work and are children at playgroups usually older?

I started taking DD#1 to playgroup at about 12 months. There were a number of babies there who were younger.

Shop around for a good one, though. The first one I looked into was OK on the surface, but had some hygiene issues. DD#1 and I both caught gastro more while we attended that playgroup than any other time before or since. Changed playgroups, problem stopped. I think DD#1 was picking up the bugs from the toys not being cleaned often enough, and mums bringing sick kids along.

I was never involved in a mothers group, so I can't say anything about them disbanding.

I have a mother's group I go to and I also go to a playgroup. DS has been going since he was around 3 months old. He is now 9 months and he loves going, he can't interact with some kids but he dosn't mind at all.

I had the same problem, but I was lucky enough to get to know a few mums from mothers group pretty well so we stayed in touch and still meet up for Play Dates.

Theres about five of us so its a nice small group and we meet at local parks, play centres, we go swimming at the local aquatic centre, have coffee at cafes etc etc

However if you dont know any mums real well try a playgroup for under 1's or 2's you can find the website on BH under activities for children.

Like the other girls have said you might want to look around till you find the right one for you etc

Actually I know of a great playgroup for under 1.5 year olds near where I am, there too little for my bub but would be perfect for 10 monther, they meet up every thurs. PM me for details.

In case you're wondering I'm from Western Sydney near St Mary's and I am organising a playgroup/mother's group to meet at St Mary's play centre this coming Tuesday at 11.30am if your interested, just for a chat and a coffee, I have a 3yr old boy and an almost 11 month old boy. I found my mother's group ON BUB HUB!!!!!

Go to the local meet ups, check out the names and details of people who have the local chat threads going and see if they're people that you would click with. If so, send them a PM. You never know, the girls I met are wonderful friends to have and Im glad I gave it a go :)
