Hi there! Welcome!
Conceiving is all about waiting - as I'm sure EVERYONE will tell you!
First you need to work out how regular you are. If you are smack-bang on the 28 day mark then (lucky you) that is a great place to start. I will also include the 'lingo' in brackets so you can understand what we mean when talking about CD's, O's and BFP's!
You can only fall pregnant when you are ovulating, and that occurs right in the middle of your cycle. Ie, Cycle Day 1 (CD1) is the first day of your period, so you would expect to ovulate (o) somewhere between Cycle Day 12 (CD12) and Cycle Day 16 (CD16).
I have found so far the best way to find out if you are ovulating or not is to use an Ovulation Predictor Kit (OPK). I get a pack of 5 tests from Coles for $20. There are more expensive ones too, but they all basically work the same. The kit is used the same way as a Home Pregnancy Test (HPT) - pee on a stick!
There is also an item on the market called Maybe Baby. Basically its a little kaleidoscope looking thing and you spit on a tray and watch whether it has 'ferns' in it or not. I'm not a master on this one - can someone else help out here?
There are other methods to find out if your ovulating or not too - taking your temp (ask someone else about this one - I have no idea!) and also checking your discharge. Yep - kinda gross, but hey - a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.
Thats about it really. As far as my baby-making knowledge goes!
Your at the best website for support along the way. I have lost two babies so far and the women on this site are absolutely fantastic. Any questions you have there is more than likely going to be someone around to help out!
Take it easy - and I hope you get a BFP soon (Big Fat Pregnancy)!!!
Cheers,
Tea Lady

Oh - I forgot the most enjoyable bit! How could I forget :o
cross everything you've got and hope for the best!!
It took us 2 years of actual trying (plus one year of going off the pill and seeing what happened) to fall with our first son, but number two was a surprise for all of us!!

Hi hopesanprayers! :D Basically you have to BD(sex) on the day you conceive. The way you work that out is count 14 days back from the day your next AF is due. Normally its around day 14 of a cycle but it depends on how long your cycle goes for. My cycles go for 35 days so i ovulate around day 18. Theres a couple of ways that you can tell when you are ovulating and they are:
- temperature. Normally when you're ovulating you'll have a dip in your temperatures.
- physical signs. Theres normally EWCM, mild cramping, increased sex drive, etc.
When you ovulate you generally have 24 hours to BD in. The egg only hangs around in that time. Sperm lasts up to 72 hours, so even if you had BD'd 24 hours before you O you should be ok.
Anyway theres a lot involved in conceiving and my post could gone on all day trying to explain everything. So if you have any other questions feel free to ask. A lot of us here have been TTC for a long time and know all the ins and outs of TTC! :D

Hey thank you guys so much! I'll keep you updated
Hi hopesanprayers,
i think the girls have covered alot..there is a good book if you wanted some more insight in how it all works and how to have the healthiest conception and pregnancy rather than the fastest. "Natural Fertility" by Francesca Naish is a good book to start with...it goes into O, CM and BBT...and ignore the chapter on lunar cycles if you like. It also gives you tips on diet and excercise. you may have to order it in, as not all book stores have them in store.
And the most important tip is enjoy BD ...you are involved in the most amazing thing two people could be doing...creating another life! ENJOY and good luck!!!!
I think you have to have sex at some point too :D
Is that how I got this way??? :p

I thought I started my period Friday but then it was weird because Saturday it was over. Now there is light spotting and I feel sick to my stomach. Can anyone tell me what the heck is going on. I have never had this before. Thank you!!
I don't want to get your hopes up. But that was what I had the month before I found out I was 8 weeks pregnant with PJ. I only have very light bleed for 2 days then spotting for a day or so.
I'll cross my fingers for you!! I wouldn't do a test now though, when I did one at a similar time to where you are now it came up negative. I was 12 days late for my next period when I tested and it was positive.

Good luck! The best advice I can give is...no advice! Just take it easy, enjoy the ride, and try not to stress about getting pregnant.
We tried for 3 months and got preggers on the 4th month. The 4th month was an emotional mess....my hubby's great gran was in hospital and we were all told she wouldnt make it....I was going for another job, and was 90% sure it was mine....we desided that we probably wouldnt get pregnant that month because of all the stress in our lives....so we stopped trying and just did what felt right instead of BDing to the calender..... Low and behold....3 weeks later and we had a BFP!!!!
Fingers crossed for you, and remember relax and let nature take its course. :)

Just dropping by to say hi and see if you have done any more tests yet? ;)
I think you have to have sex at some point too :D
I'm trying to conceive, i think you've solved my problem. It makes it very hard to conceive when your husband works long hours and is too tired for it. I thought all men were happy to get it as often as possible! Praps it's me!
