hi
i don't want to use disposables due to the environmental impact so i have set myself up for our new arrival with eenees and their compostable/flushable pads. i am thinking this could get a bit expensive over time so i have been reading up on MCNs.
i was thinking for starters, i might just get some fitted clothies with pilchers (would just be for at home then eenees when we go out). then if i go well with them, i will get some AIOs.
any advice/recommendations/comments would be great!! thanks.
(still gotta convince DH about rinsing off poo, will get one of those squirter things... hey, it can't be as rank as a cat's litter tray LOL)

Sounds like you are on the right track...

Covers have changed a bit these days you can get fleece, PUL, and wool covers that work better then the PVC kind, they breath better so a bit nicer for your little one.

Check out Baby Beehinds, you get get trial packs, they have fitteds and covers. The Hemp dries a bit faster but the Bamboo is lovely and soft and super absorbent.
There's is a OSFA nappy and will last from birth right through till TT.

You can get lots of different types, scan the threads and you will find out what is popular right now.

You can also sew them yourself to save a few $$$

if you've already set yourself up with the eenies system, you can use a padfolded flat cloth nappy with those, to save a bit of money outlay if you wanted to. terry flats, flannelette flats, prefolds, hemp flats or bamboo flats should all work ok :)

Oh, and I don't find it a big deal with spraying the poo of the nappies... I have to wipe it off her bum anyway!!!

can you use hemparoos, maybe you could get some hemparoos from Green Kids? to use with the enees, cause they are like pockets aren't they or have I got it wrong?

welcome to the wonderful world of MCN. You'll discover that it's easy to use cloth - you probably won't even need those flushable pads!

i am not so confident about eenees containing runny newborn poo the way other pul covers eg. motherease, bummis, baby beehinds (used with a flat/prefold nappy) would?

I do have eenees covers but somehow I always look to use a fitted/flat nappy with my baby beehinds cover instead. Personal preference I guess.

Good luck!

Just thought I would mention that Eenee's are a part of MCN;)

well, the reusable part of them are... the flushable bits aren't. They have one foot in each camp.

Good covers are essential- the cheap pvc ones from departments stores and the supermarket work for a rare few, but create a hot, steamy and generally unhealthy environment for bub's delicate skin. And don't keep in runny newborn poo as well as modern ones made from waterproof, breatheble PUL (polyurethane laminate).

Popular covers include:
Motherease Airflow (I wish all mine were these!)
Bummis Super Whisper Wrap
Tots Bots wraps
Hand knitted soakers, shorties and longies- beautiful and very effective!!
and the PUL and wool ones from Baby Beehinds.

Baby Beehinds are an excellent one-size nappy- you'll find as you read through the threads around here that the Bamboo ones are very popular and SO lush!! Just beautiful, so soft and gorgeous colours:yes:
If you were to get the trial pack, it would include a wool and pul cover to get you started. The trial packs are a great way to go- all you need to get started, so you don't have to worry about forgetting something.

The other types of MCNs are pockets and AIOs. I THINK (correct me girls if I'm wrong) but the general consensus is that fitteds/flats/prefolds and a quality cover work the best for a newborn. As they get older, pockets like Green Kids are very popular. They have a built in cover but need an insert (as apposed to a fitted needing a cover). Most of the trendy patterned nappies you'll see pics of around here are either pocket nappies or covers over fitted nappies.

HTH!! Gosh, sorry for the essay- I've probably confused you more! :o

Wow, thanks for all the replies!!
a friend gave me some terry flats, i forgot they can go into the eenee pants, how would i fold them?
i've only got the smaller size eenee pants so maybe i will try that out until bub is bigger...

For the smaller cut the terry's in half and fold into a rectangle - or even use facewashers;)
