Hi everyone.....I'm using cloth nappies on my DS and have been using the plastic PVC pilchers. Im not very happy with them and they seem uncomfortable.
Are they cotton pilchers out on the market? What can you recommended?
Thanks for your suggestions.

I was a big fan of fluffies with #1 and #2. They are very hard to come by for #3.
I'm thinking of trying the lanolinised wool ones.

There are some pilchers very like the PVC ones, but made of PUL which is breathable, they are called Bummis Super Whisper Pants, do an internet search and see if you can find them. They are very soft and breathable, they are my fav overnap.
You cant get cotton pilchers because they wouldnt be waterproof.

I just noticed that you are from Brisbane, I have a few of the fluffy pilchers and the Target ones that cobysmummy was talking about, if you wanted you are welcome to borrow them and see how they go for you before buying any. I personally am using the eenie pocket nappies and find them great as the cover is pretty durable and we havn't had a leak yet.
Cotton is absorbent, so they wouldn't stop moisture from getting out of the nappy and into clothes, beds, laps, etc!
Wool is absorbent too, but in a good way! Wool breathes, and locks in excess moisture that gets through to it's fibres. It is moisture repellent when lanolised (lanolin is the grease that sheep have in their wool to stay dry and warm). It may feel damp to touch after a long night over a heavily wet nappy, but generally shouldn't be sodden (like cotton would) and is very comfortable for bubs because they don't get too cold, nor too hot. Wool is a great insulator. It keeps in warmth when wet, but acts as an evaporative cooler when the temperature around us is high. It's an amazing natural fibre. It requires more care than most covers, although only needs washing every 2 weeks, roughly, because lanolin 'self cleans' wool. Wool isn't great for runny breastfed poo containment, and when you get poo on it, it needs to be washed, and generally relanolised. Hmmmm... But I LOVE wool! And it is so soft and cute too!
Polarfleece is another option that can be used like wool, but it's not natural, and sometimes is more prone to allowing clothes, etc. to get damp because it can't soak up excess moisture. It's very easy to use and wash, and dries quickly (and covers using fleece are easy to make, I'm sure I can find you a free pattern if you want one, just ask). Better for containment, as it's not uncommon for them to have elastic in the legs and waist. breath well too. but they are often quite bulky. Much cheaper than most covers, but not as easy to get hold of. Pretty similar to the fluffies things you can buy in the shops. but the WAHM ones are better!
PUL or Polyurethane Laminate is very popular for nappy covers. It doesn't breathe like wool and fleece, but breathes and feels SO much better than PVC yucky things! Easy to care for and come by, very good fit, great poo containment, no external dampness. Reasonably good value, especially for what they are.
I don't want to recommend specific brands on here, there are so many to try, but have a look at www.ozclothnappies.org for a whole lot of FAQs about cloth and fabrics, and a list of website where you can buy nappies from WAHMs (work at home mums). The website generally has a description of some of the items the WAHM sells, so you should be able to stumble through and find those that sell wool, fleece or PUL covers. and you will find some amazing nappies there too! The same sort of info is at www.modernnappies.org. These are both volunteer organisations that are helping to promote modern cloth nappies and accessories in Australia.
PM me if you want more info tho! Good luck, and have fun hunting!

hi rachel and evan,
those plastic pilchers at this time of the year, or any time of the year are just yucky....
I love wool, in all its shapes and forms, felted, machine knitted, hand knitted, for breathability and absorption, all the reasons Lucy stated. I like the Sckoon wool cover (it's machine washable).
And, just like Lucy said, your other options are PUL and fleece; fleece is abit heavy this time of the year, I think, PUL better for day wear rather than overnight.
if you have cotton in mind, I found some gorgeous cotton covered PUL covers online that I'm tempted to try; they look really smart, and have the reliability of 100% waterproofness of the PUL. PM me if you want to know where I saw them...
Cheers!

I use fluffies for my toddler (check in the supermarkets/ big chain stores) if you want to try them let me know as i have heaps of little ones as we are using the velcro/ polar fleece wrap styles with bubba. They are great and let the little bum breathe but dont seem to leak. I like the wrap ones for bubba as she still has the runny breastfed poos and the little plastic gussets around the legs help stop runouts!! the rest of the pilcher is polarfleece. hope this helps:) (check ebay too- i got heaps of brand new pilchers off there for next to nix)
Some PUL covers that are supposed to be good (I haven't got them yet) are the Tots covers. You can see/buy them at www.cleverpants.com.au.
Sounds like Fluffies are good too. I will have to see if I can find some of them!

i use PUL covers, these are breathable so much better for baby. I started using the eenie pull on pilchers and have used them for 18 months, they have been great but I don't think they make them any more. I have one pair of bubba j pilchers, these are a wrap pilcher that fasten with snaps and are adjustable 3 sizes, again these are PUL. If you do a google search of WAHM nappy covers there is a web site where they are all listed, (sorry can't remember the website). Just remember that when your baby becomes a toddler, quite often they can undo the velcor/aplex ?spelling fastenings, they can also irratate the skin on some babies.
Good luck
Tracey
What Mor said! I have some of each of those :D
