I'm wondering if those who've had inductions in the past would be willing to share the outcome/s they experienced.

While I haven't yet hit my due date, it is looming ever closer, and both my Dr and myself are of the belief that this bub is quite comfortable where he is & has no intention of going anywhere any time soon! My OB appt for 41 weeks has already been confirmed.

The poll is multiple choice for those who've had more than one induction, and I'd also like to hear more info about your situation once you've voted. What was the reason for your induction, what method of induction was used, how did you feel about it all etc.

Any info would be appreciated!! :)

aww MrsMiggins:hugs:

If it makes you feel better at my 40 week appointment Liam was even slightly making any progress...and he came 5 days later :D (I had a 41 week appointment booked but no induction)

I hope you get the birth you want, and don't stress too much about induction yet.

:D Thanks CK!!!

He's been such a good boy so far, I'm sure he won't fail me now! I am ever optimistic!!!

ETA: Just saw your siggie.... now I have Fat Boy Slim in my head!!! (I hope it stays there!!! I'm being driven insane waking up several times a night with some "Blues Clues" or "Dora the Explorer" song going round & round in my head!!!!)

I'm sending good labour vibes your way...just don't sneeze or he might fall out

(and I love that song, I dance to it doing housework)

Ohhhh! OK then! I don't do housework!!

I'm pretty sure we're safe on the sneezing thing - just getting over a cold right now!! If he was goingto come out when I sneezed, I could have had him a thousand times over the weekend!!!

I was induced at 3:30pm, they used the gel and were supposed to break my waters the next day. At 9:30 the same evening I started having contractions, and by 12:35 I had Brion! So all up just over 3 hrs labour.

Kinda hope I have another labour like that one

Good luck! Hope your little fella doesn't need too much convincing!

With Oscar I hit 10 days overdue and was sooo over it I agreed to an induction - 3 days later I was still being induced unsuccesfully with gel, syntocin and manually breaking of my waters. In the end I had no choice but receive a c-section.

With Isla my waters broke and they gave me till morning to get my contractions going - nothing happened so I was given syntocin and constant monitoring as I was attempting a vbac. 15 hours later on syntocin - 6 of those hours Isla's heartrate had dropped (they did acidic scalp monitoring so she was ok) but labour ended up stopping and resulted in another c-section.

I went to my 39.5 week appointment, Cobey was going no where. Not engaged, not "dropped", no strong braxton hicks etc. My midwife said "See you next week!"
4 days later he was in my arms, naturally..! So don't think your wee man might not just come on his own! :)

Successful Induction :).

I got there at 6, waters broken and drip started at 8. Contractions started straight away.. I was holding DD 3.5 hours later :).

Hi i Had an induction for my son. He was 8 days over due when i was induced. I was induced for a couple of reasons. One because my blood had gone up a little bit and 2 my partners grandmother was going back to england in a few days time. So i went in on the tuesday night the 10th and they put gel and put me on the monitor and all was fine. I stayed the night with DP sleeping on the floor. So the next morning we waddled around to the birthing suit where they broke my waters and attached me to the drip. I was 3 cm when they broke my waters. I laboured quie painfully as adam was posterior and the pain was all in me back. By 3pm i was still only 4cm dilated and contraction where not regular. So i had an epidural.. Peace at last. At six i still had proressed any further and bub wasnt coping the best with drip so it was off to theatre to have a c section. I hope that has helped a little. Everyone is different. But i hopw that you go into labour naturally.

Okay - here are my two stories!

With DD2 she was 8 days overdue and I was over waiting at home with a Dh and a mother hovering and getting in each other's way. So I agreed when my doctor suggested induction. When they examined me I was about 1 cm dilated and the baby wasn't engaged but wasn't too high either. They put one dose of prostin gel in at about 8am and warned me that I might feel "prostin cramps" but that this wouldn't necessarily be labour. At 11.20am I asked DH to time the "cramps" as they were becoming noticable (not particularly painful) and when we realised that they were 1 1/2 minutes apart we rang a bell and were zoomed off to the delivery room. DD2 was born at 1.09pm. During the process I had progressed from being 5 cm dilated to delivering in 20 minutes, which caught the aneathetist (sp?) by surprise as he ended up helping to deliver the baby while he was finishing putting the epidural in. DD2 came out with one push and needed a visit to the resuscitation cart as a result - she hadn't had time to squeeze all the liquid from her lungs etc.

With DS, because of the speed that things happened with DD2, after simply having one dose of gel applied, everyone medical was worried about what would happen if I went into labour at home - they thought (and I agreed) that I might end up delivering at home, and after DD2 needed immediate medical attention I was a little worried about that happening at home or in the car. So I eventually agreed to an induction one week before my due date.

This time round the gel was put on my cervix (which the midwife informed me was high and tight and that there was no way this was going to work) at 6pm. At 1.30am I realised that my feelings of discomfort were a bit regular so timed and found I was having these "feelings of discomfort" about 1 1/2 minutes apart....and DS was born at 3.43am. (and that was the short version of my story ).

I asked lots of questions about induction and the methods of induction in making my decision third time round so if you have any questions I will do what I can to pass on the info!

My boy was induced at 10 days past his EDD. They broke my waters, but then started the drip to get things moving. 4 hours later he was born!

A very quick and intense labour, and it all went really well.

Good luck!

DD's induction ...

Gel ... monday morning, monday arvo, monday night, tuesday morning, tuesday arvo, sleeping pill tuesday night, wednesday morning, wednesday arvo, wednesday night, thurday morning (still not even 1cm or in established labour!), walked for hours, gel thursday night, last gel friday morning ... sent home to see my Grandmother at airport then back at 6:30pm for 10:30pm c/section!

Needless to say, after this experience (sooooo boring all that time in a labour room!), I opted for a c/section with DS!

I was induced using the tape, as my cervix was very unfavourable at 41 weeks.

It took a while to start working but then it did. And Kailah (#2) was born 30hours after they put the tape in. I didn't need sytocin or ARM, or anything. It all just happend in it's own time.

Hi babe :hugs: to you.

I was recently in your position and it is bloody awful.

I have had 3 inductions all 3 were fantastic.
With the third induction i was able to go on all 4's on the floor with a gym ball, i was pretty mobile.

I had very quick labours and i can honestly say i reall really enjoyed my third labour!!! I am not just saying now i actually said it then too, they thought i was weird:confused:

Goodluck, :fingerscrossed: to you going naturally,if not heres to hoping your induction is as good as mine:D

Its funny how so many of us try all through our pregnancy to avoid drugs - ie, smoking, alcohol, and then all of a sudden the labour comes and we are willing to have a cocktail of drugs in our system through an OBS/midwives suggestion.

Your baby will pick her birthday, its important that you're patient with her, and let her come when she is good and properly ready. The cascade of interventions linked to inductions (which are more often then not completely unnecessary) is mind boggling! Carefully investigate the risks. Do your own research and find out exactly what it is you're in store for.

My induction outcome was an emergency c-section. I was 2 weeks over due though and there was fetal distress.

Induced 3 times after 10 days overdue... 1 of which didn't work because it had been stored incorrectly, not because of any other reason.

I didn't have an emergency c-sec... it was an 'elective' apparently, as it was planned a day in advance (well, less than 24 hours, but as I was not in labour, it was not a true emergency).

Wanting a VBAC next time, I'm not going to even CONSIDER induction or anything else until AT LEAST 2 weeks overdue. I'll agree to regular check-ups, but that'll be it.

4 days before my EDD I developed PE and from the time I had the drip inserted and my waters broken to the time I had Amelia in my arms was 4 hours. I hope master miggins sorts it out himself:hugs:

I was induced (finally, after 4 weeks of being in and out of hospital with PE, being told I wouldn't be going home pregnant) with gel on Tuesday night about 8pm, given sleeping pills, slept till 1am contractions woke me up. timed them for about an hour all about 3mins apart. labour slowed so waters broken at about 7am. labour slowed again after a few hours, (apparently, I though it was going fine but DF assures me it pretty much stopped for a while there.)
Drip in and cranked up, flat on my back screaming and swearing, and told to shut up got epidural about 4pm still in huge amount of pain, told by middie to start pushing at about 8pm as "You've been going on for a while now, you may as well see if he'll come out." turns out the pain was the bearing down sensation. He was out in 32 mins.
Then everything stopped and I lost 1-2ltrs of blood, as my uterus hemorrhaged due to no afterbirth contractions.
I'd need some serious convincing to be induced again.

I was induced with dd when i was 39 weeks pregnant, they broke my waters at 8am in the morn because i was already 4cm dialated.I had her 16 hrs later.

With ds i was induced at 40 weeks, first they tried dialting me because i wasnt at all ripe/dialated they stuck this balloon thingy in thats suppose to stretch the cervix and it fell out 1 hr later, they put gel in and by morn i was a little bit dialated but not 'favourable' baby was still quite high but they dicided to break my waters anyway they had to push baby down while they broke my water so the cord didnt go around babies head.I had him 9 hrs later.

I was induced 2 days after my due date as ds was in distress. However, less than half an hour after they induced me he went into further distress and I was sent in for an emerg c/s.

With dd i had the gel when i was 40 weeks + 2 days as i was not dilated at all. Next morning i was 2cms and they broke my water and hooked me up to the drip 2 & 1/2 hrs later dd was born.

With DS iwas already 4 cms when they went to induce me at 40 weeks +8 days, so they broke my waters and put drip in. 4 hours later ds was born.

I had no complications with either of my inductions and lucky for me both were fairly quick.

I wasn't really keen to be induced but after 2 stretch and sweeps at 41 wks and 41+2 wks my cervix was nowhere near ready. I decided to be induced 11 days past EDD (they would have let me go 14 days over)

I had the tape inserted at 7.30am as my cervix was not ripe this was used, as it a slow release of dinoprostone.

Contractions started mildly around midday, by 5 pm they had got stronger but managable. At 7.30pm they were getting stronger but not too bad my m/w removed the tape and found i was 5cm.

We decided to break my waters, this is when the contractions became full on, closer and i started to make noises.

I got in the birthing pool at 8.15pm and bubs was born at 9pm.

At about 4pm i thought "oh i've made the wrong decision, this induction isn't working, i shouldn't have done it" (as the pain wasn't that bad) little did i know i'd be holding my baby 5 hrs later!

I had the best outcome possible. A fast second stage labour with no drugs and i got the water birth that i wanted...oh and a beautiful baby boy at the end...the best bit of course.

I was concerned and convinced i'd end up with every kind of intervention, but it turned out i didn't need anything.

I had my waters broken (no gel, drip or anything) and it was all on from there on in -- the baby arrived 40 minutes later! It sounds great, but such a short time means it really is a bit fast and furious. I had my waters broken because I'd been having niggly little contractions overnight and my first baby had arrived quickly (three hours) -- we didn't want to be caught out and as I was already a couple of centimetres dilated, we decided that we'd take the obs advice and have my waters broken. I guess it worked!

I was induced at 37 weeks on the dot with my twins, first they broke my waters for twin 1, thinking along the lines that I already had 3 kids (all came on their own, no inductions) that my body would know what to do, but nope, wasnt happening quick enough, so they put me on the drip to speed things up. Luckily, I felt nothing, as I had to have an epidural just incase one of the twins became distressed, or something. (I was so not wanitng the epidural, I was more scared of that than the induction as I heard inductions can be more painfull, which would have been had I not had the epidural)
anyway took 6 hours from start to when both twins were born.

according to their monitors I was having piggy back contracts and really strong ones, butI just lyed there the whole time not feeling a thing. My twins were still sitting up a bit, they so were not ready to be born yet, they would have happily stayed another 2 weeks! After they were born, neither of them needed oxygen or anything, they were mature enough to be born, but werent quite ready to leave it seemed. So, if your on time, or late, is should be alot quicker than it was for me.

Hi

I was induced with DD1 with the gel at 35 weeks. They put the gel on at 7am in the morning, and i was having mild contractions after that. At 12 noon they broke my waters (which hurt alittle) and then i had her at 2pm that day..

Very quick labour.. Drug free.

Good luck, hope you are holding your little man soon.

I had an induction at 37 weeks due to IUGR. Thankfully I was already about 2cm dilated (which was a big surprise seeing as my DD was born at 41 weeks and I thought that this baby would have at least another month if allowed to go naturally). My waters were broken and I was put onto a synotocin drip which started contractions pretty well straightaway.

My labour according to hospital records was a very quick 1 hour 22 minutes and drug free.

My beautiful son was born little but gorgeous - he is now 7 weeks and thriving.

Good luck :)

I was booked in for an induction 9 days after the due date, and was admitted into hospital the night before so they could insert the gel - but the found I was already 2.5 cm dialated! So they decided against using the gel as they thought I may go into labour overnight. I didn't, so at 9:30am the next morning my waters were broken (which was very uncomfortable!). That was all I needed to bring the labour on, and five and a half hours later my beautiful son was born! :)

i was a few days early with emily, even tho my waters had broken, nothin was happening, so they put the drip in my arm to get things going, and the contractions started right away hard and fast....had emily few hours later...after a much long and exhausting 30hr labour....
