View Full Version : Would you??
I don't know what to do! I was meant to have a caesarean last friday as bub was breech but he turned around so now we are waiting. the doc has recommended an induction this friday as he believes bub will be really late otherwise. the baby is actually due on sunday so i don't know if i should get induced on friday or keep waiting and maybe/probably be induced the following week?
PS - DH really wants me to go this friday and i am tempted to let him make the decision as i just can't decide!! i really want my bub now (having the c/s planned makes me feel like i have been waiting forever) but i know that induction can be really intense and painful!!
ANY ADVICE???

No way would I ever go through another induction and I was induced because my waters broke 21 days beforehand:eek:.
No offence to your ob, but what makes him think that you're going to go late? Sounds to me like bubs has turned, he should be more than happy to let you go naturally.
Trust me, there is nothing more wonderful than going into spontaneous labour.I know it's exciting and you want bubs out! LOL I've been there 3 times;)
Good luck with your decision and I can't wait to read your birth story, induced or not!:hugs:

I would go with what my dr recomends.
I was induced with 3 of my four one was wednesday, one saturday and last was a friday.

No I would have to agree with angelmist. I would not go for an induction again either.
Best of luck tho

i think just coz he turned so late (38+3). i have another appointment on thursday so will discuss with him more. hopefully bub will just make the decision for me in the next two days :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: :D

Babies come when they are ready. I'd be waiting it out of preference.
I was induced and had a good experience- in saying that I would love to have had labour come on naturally...
What on earth makes your Dr think bubs will be really late??? Seems very odd to me...
Contractions etc are much more painful and full on with an induction and there is a much higher rate of c-sections, forceps etc etc... (where is queenie when you need her lol ;))
Good luck in your decision.

I picked no, wait till longer. My reason being, I fear c-sections, and my midwives always warned me that there's a higher risk of having to have one, induction doesn't always wind up as a natural birth.
I waited two weeks over my due date. So glad I finally went into labor before my Induce date.
I ended up with a beautiful, natural birth.
I won't be planning on having any babies anytime soon, but when the time comes, if I do end up going over my due date. (hopefully not two weeks again!). If they offer me an inducedate, I'm going to refuse it and wait it out. lol Can we do that?
ps: Babies can be breech all up until 40 weeks and turn as soon as labor starts, It happens all the time.
A babies position doesn't always change but the majoirty does, this is basically another reason why we are given that extra 10 days after our due date (option to be induced). I think all of our hubby's get anxious, but they're not the ones delivering lol.
Hi there,
your doctor does not know when the baby will come because there is no way on god's green earth of predicting this no matter how many degrees are up on the wall. Thats why EDD stands for Estimated Due date, because its a guess based on "most" people.
Pregnancy is normal up to 42 week's gestation and if it was me I wouldn't even consider getting induced under any circumstances other than proof of placental breakdown jeopardising the baby's or my own life.
run, run for the hills!! Thats what I would do, LOL!!
Seriously though, I would really let bubby choose his own birthday. He will come when he's cooked and its better for everyone if you and the doctor let this happen.
Natural labour is fantastic, you will love it. I have never been induced but I hear its hard and fast and often starts a cascade of intervention. Why do this when you could just let your body and your boy work together on his arrival?
Good luck, exciting times!

I'm with everyone else and I would definetly wait. I would copy Shed's post word for word.
Some people wait until 45 weeks gestation or so until bub is ready - but they do come out on their own accord eventually.

I would wait until your over. I wouldn't like to be induced early again. NO WAY!!

I was induced with my first baby because they told me he was big. It ended up 3 times before baby came. The first induction attempt was a day after he was due and he still didn't come and then again a few days later, still didn't work.
They ended up sending me home and I came back 10 days overdue and finally baby decided to arrive. Like others said, bub will come when they are ready.

I was induced 3 times after my due date and all failed.
I later discovered that my 'due date' was not an accurate representation of how far along I was... we were working off a '28 day cycle' when my cycle was actually 32 days long.
After 3 failed inductions, I had an unwanted (and IMO not needed) caesarean. I think they figured they'd done enough stuffing around with me, and that they might as well get me out of their hair. So cut up I was.
Induction isn't pleasant, and I hear labour with induction is even LESS pleasant, often resulting in further complications. I'd avoid it at absolutely all costs.
Your baby will know when he/she is ready to exit. So what if that's after your EDD... and so what if it's even THREE WEEKS after your EDD.
If I could go back in time, when my doctor recommended induction, I'd tell him that I'd be happy to come in daily for monitoring, but I would not even CONSIDER induction until at least 42 weeks (which, for me, was the day I had my DD via c-sec). There's no reason why an otherwise healthy baby/Mum would need a baby to be delivered earlier than this.
I might not have been wise back then, but I've certainly become more birth wise now that I've been able to look back with regret. Seriously take into consideration some of the advice you will recieve on here... a lot of us have been in a similar situation and looked back with regret because our decisions. Maybe you can learn from OUR mistakes, instead of having to make them for yourself...
Good luck!

Sassy, I seem to be agreeing with you a lot today !
There are a lot of women who look back on their inductions with regret.I'm definitely one of them.I had the syntocin drip with DD and hated every second of her labour.Whereas I absolutely loved my previous births.
I felt majorly groggy for at least 24 hrs afterwards.I couldn't even remember introducing my DS's to their baby sister:(.

So you're not thinking an induced labour usually ends in a bad experience :D, like Billy, I was induced (9 days over) and had what I describe as a fantastic birth experience ... much better than my completely natural, spontaneous labour for different reasons.
Apart from being "really late" is there any other reason why he's suggested induction this week before EDD?
I would never hesitate being induced again, but I wouldn't want to do it 'now' for the sake of being overdue unless there was a medical reason why.
Either way, it's ultimately your decision ... do what's best for you, your DH & your precious bub GOOD LUCK :hugs:

ive been induced 3 times, my longest labour was just over 4 hours:smiliedance:
i love it, i dont know if it hurts more... but i lived through it 3 times... you'll be fine, just ask for pain relief... i always get pethidine, it helps me dilate cause i breathe through my contractions, and it stops it from hurting:D

What's the hurry?? Let nature takes its course... Why is your doctor so interested in intervening when it is not neccessary?? It seems your pregnancy is unfolding perfectly normally and you will go on to have a wonderful labour and birth if you let things be.
I agree with the majority of people here...just wait! I'd tell your OB to stick it if I were you, but that's just me!

What is your gut telling you ?
I think in some ways you already know your answer.
For me if i had stuck to my gut feelings with Boof then i wouldnt have had the problems i did have in the end & i wasnt even induced.
Take on board what your doctor has to say because sometimes their medical opinions are valid but then weigh it up with how you feel.
Good luck !

Hahaha ... have just come back to this thread ... I wasn't aiming my post previous to yours at you ... gosh, I hope you weren't thinking that LOL!
I know for sure there are definately those horrible experiences out there, but there are some wonderful ones too. And, I really think that (eg) what I may not be able to handle will be completely different for someone else too, and vice versa as well as different births to - who knows if I was ever induced again I may say the same as you NEVER another one! ... it's a vicious world sometimes, hey?!

BTW ... anyone heard from LL and how she went?
hi!
i took option three and was induced on the tuesday (due sunday). i was 4cm dilated and 75% effaced so i would've been in labour within a day or two anyway.
the good thing about being induced was that labour was so quick but the bad thing is that it was so full-on. worth every second tho!!
