motivate your school kids to get up in the morning? (especially during winter) Jared (DS1) seems to be having a hard time getting up in the morning, as if he doesn't want to go to school:( and we always argue bout it. though after he took a shower, he's soooo very much alive and bubbly to go to school..:smiliedance:

anyone who has the same or different stories of your school kids? any suggestions?

I've got 5 of them to get up and ready for school, and if they arent ready, then I will get them in the car with their PJ's on and threaten to take them to school like that! (they are woken up with plenty of time to get ready and have breaky!)

Even though I dont agree with 100% of supernannies ideas I really like her rise and shine routine ill type it out for you...

How the technique works...
Give each of your children their own alarm clock and lamp

Write down the morning routine and stick it up next to the alarm clocks so that the childrne know whats expected of them and what steps to follow

Let each child pick out an outfit or uniform the night before. Get their schoolbags ready.

In the morning, Mum or Dad goes into each child's room before the alarm goes off and does a "pre-wake" Turn the lamp on and gently nudge the child awake. Remind him that he has to get up when the alarm goes off.

When the alarm goes off, each child must get out of bed, get washed and dressed and come down from breakfast, then brush their teeth and get ready for school.

The key aspect of the technique is to give your kids plenty of praise and encouragement when they successfully completely a step in the routine.

I hope this helps! Now the next step is how can we get ourselves motivated to get out bed in the morning

Me to, although I have taken them to school in their PJ's and got them out of the car.
Granted after I took them home to get changed we were late, but they get up and ready on time now...

I am a nasty mum and loving it...

Like what babylover said a good routine that they like and understand does help.

We have used reward charts and a chore chart (he actually likes doing his chores in the morning).

But i think he's pretty much got the gist of things now. He understands that if he gets his job done there is a reward. Not tv though.

As soon as he's done his chores and dressed he can play with whatever he likes (the reward). This morning he did craft. I am not allowed to remove the weetbix box/shoebox dragon castle that has started to be constructed on the dining room table, or the masking tape all around the edges of the table, or scatterred pens....as he wishes to continue this project when he gets home.

He has a speshy choosing shelf with craft, games and puzzles he can do whenever he likes. Maybe something like that for your kids. If it's organised hun it won't make too much mess either. And it's motivating in an educational way.

Hope that helps. Luv Kiah

thanks ladies! He should be in school at 845 and I usually wake him up at 730 (coz he does a lot of "mum, it's still early" or ykwim) Maybe I'll wake him up 30mins earlier than that starting tom. This morning when we had a little argument about him getting up late, I put "no play" (on xbox) this Sat. He had that once before and he really wasn't able to play...I told him that it was the consequence of what he did. I'm trying to be as calm as possible but...whew! kids.............:o

What about putting him to bed an hour earlier at night? My kids bounce out of bed all bright eyed and bushy tailed at 6.30. We don't ever set an alarm....they wake us up!
