Hello all!

With the sucess of the BubHub Pay It Forward thread I thought I would put together all the ideas that have been brought up on the thread and collectively put it together on a list for us to see.

I also have a furthur challenge for you all... I was inspired tonight to do this by a wonderful PM I recieved about the thread. This person went out and made a difference in the lives of others and got to experience the feeling of 'giving'.

Here are all our ideas so far:
*not selling your unwanted kids clothing, but donating it to families in need or organisations that work with families in need
*volunteer at the local animal shelter
*visit the elderly at a nursing home (they LOVE kids)
*work at a soup kitchen for the homeless
*help someone with their groceries
* help a mum (or dad) get a trolley that works
* Pay for the car behind you when crossing a tollway
* Let other car's merge in front of you - who knows when they'll get a chance next!
* Take in the next door neighbour's wheelie bin for them
* Give your Great Aunt Cecil a call - you know, the one you haven't spoken to for a good 2 or 3 years?
* Ask your child's school about the disadvantaged childrens programme that they run and ask how you can help
*visit an assisted living hostel/home with your kids - the residents just light up when children/babies come through the door.
* anonymously pay for/part pay for petrol for a stranger
* buy lunch for a homeless person
* randomly give away a pre-paid train or bus ticket
* buy flowers for a person you heard is struggling
* write letters to inmates or troops serving in Iraq
* clean up a neighbourhood park
* buy some new games/toys for the local children's hospital
* help out an organisation like UNICEF
* give clothes/baby items (unwanted) to Newborns in Need (www.newbornsinneed.org (http://www.newbornsinneed.org/))
* invite women living in a shelter to a spa day or makeover, buy some groceries or pamper products
* buy some school supplies for a needy school or needy family
* buy coats/give your old coats to the homeless
* buy pet food and supplies for animals in the pound / animals of farmers effected by the drought
* search the local newspaper for stories about people in need and find ways to help them
* pay for part of a tab for a random family at a resturant
* buy food and prepare meals for elderly in the neighbourhood
* pay for/find a band/music group to give a concert at a local nursing home
* donate ipods to serving soilders
* support a terminally ill child and their family in anyway they need
* buy some new clothes for children from families in need
*Help an elderly person accross the street
*Help someone when they are struggling
*Smile at strangers xalot
*Offer to watch a tired friends kids for the day so she can go and have a day to herself
*Offer to babysit so a friend and their partner can have a romantic night out, or just some time together.
* Help someone who's struggling with heavy bags to bring them to their car / house
* If you're driving along and see someone walking in the REALLY hot sun without a hat or anything, offer to give them a lift.
*Buy an extra takeaway coffee when you get one for yourself and give it to someone who looks like they really need it! (Frazzled Mum, stressed out Dad, tired looking store clerk/secretary)
*collecting baby goods, toiletries and other goods to donate to a refuge for women escaping domestic violence
*helping out, donating unwanted goods to a program working with refugees

Thankyou to Pink Lady, JessGray, Mamaduke, OJ and Me, bekkyboo & Pisces00 for their contributions, to expand my list above!

And I have some new ones for you all...
*offer your seat to elderly/disabled people in the bus (read the BubHub Pay It Forward thread for my disgust on the matter!)
*buy school supplies while they are going out cheap on clearance, store up and donate to your child's/the local school half way through the year to distribute to struggling families.
*listen to that annoying person that annoys you with their talking (ie. my grandfather).
*bring home made cookies, cakes, etc or better yet... enter the Bub Hub Bake Off and take your goodies to your workplace, child's school, Uni Tute with you and leave for others or share with others.
*if you see some rubbish on the street or in the park... pick it up (use a nappy bag (plastic bag) to pick up if you need) and pop it in the bin.
*Plant a native tree in your garden, your neighbours garden or friends garden.
*Become a 'Ward Nanny' at a local hospital.
*Shave your head for cancer.
*Organise a drought relief trip, get sponsors and donations and buy supplies, food stuck, animal feed and drive up and hang out with the farming families doing it tough!
*Get involved with the 'Cool the Globe' activities (Sunrise).
*Donate unwanted toys and books to a new playgroup.
* Send a card to a sick child - http://www.makeachildsmile.org/

MOST IMPORTANTLY
*Make a comittment to be the change you want to see in the world! :D

See my post below to my challenge to you... :hugs:

:D MY CHALLENGE TO YOU...

Apart from... MOST IMPORTANTLY
Making a comittment to be the change you want to see in the world Id like to put a challenge out to you ladies and DF/DH's to step up and be the change!

With all those great ideas and many others that other people may have, there has got to be something that you think 'Oh, I can do that' or 'I'd like to do that'. Also there are many things on here you can get your children involved in to, teaching our children to be globally aware and to develop compassion, understanding and love for others is a HUGE step to improving our world.

I wanted to pose the challenge tonight... for each of you to select something on the list above... or something you personally want to do (you can post, you can PM me or you can remain silent) and go about working towards completing this task.

When you have completed this task, come back, let me know and I will highlight that idea from the list. If you wish to pick another one that would be excellent also.

I believe that if we all work together and stand up to make the difference we will be able to complete the entire list by October of this year, 2007.

Then we can see our deeds at work and hopefully spur others to make a difference also.

Once you have started, from my experience, it becomes a lifestyle, you get such a HUGE kick out of it!

This may be a silly idea, I guess we will see by the sort of response I get.

Happy Blessing all!

Thanks for the offer and support!

I often let people merge in front of me when driving and allow people to enter a round about or pull out of their driveway before me.

I also let people cross the road and slow down if i can see they are close to crossing. They are walking and I am sittin in my car.

Im not sure bout the lift thing. Stranger danger and all that...I often see people waiting for a bus when i got to the shops, and are still there on my way back...i do consider giving them a lift but with my daughter in the care I have to decline.

I am also struggling to find a soup kitchen in Perth that I can volunteer for. And some websites dont have any volunteer positions...very strange I think.

Im still working on some more projects though...ill keep you posted.

Good on you for getting this thread up and running

Here is my "Pay it Forward" advice.
In my opinion is not wise your child to an ABC Centre!
They seem to be McDonalds of childcare and children miss out because profits go to the shareholders and aren't poured straight back into a Community-Based service as they should be.
Many ABC centres have the most boring activities (Don't let the new ad put you off) they put that Ad on because up until then many centres didn't have great programming.
Oh and they have a deal with a "Toy Company" so every little drop that can be saved is.
Plus ask your child if he/she is getting that disgusting yellow Coles Custard for dessert at ABC, mmmm yeah tooth rot coming soon.
Seriously we don't want our children 'controlled' by a multi-billion dollar corporation do we? Lets go Community-Based and let our kids have better all around care!

Volunteer at the children's hospital or become a ward granny!!! I cannot tell u what a support the volunteers were to me when I was trapped in Hospital for months on end. They could come even for 3/4 of an hour each week and play with her while I rushed away to have a coffee.

My last admission we had a wonderful "ward granny" that would sit with Megan for 5 hours once a week, she was amazing and a brillant support. Many people are a long way from home and don't have anyone to give them a break!!

Hi Megan,
Great thread, I cleaned out the kids puzzles, blocks, toys and books they didn't need anymore and gave them to a new community young mums playgroup that my sister is starting.

I know its not on the list but I thought I'd share anyway. I'm sure there are lots of local playgroups all over Australia that would love peoples good quality toys.

We're moving on Monday and I've just given 3 bags of excellent designer label clothing to the Smith Family. I feel so good. I'm glad people less fortunate than myself will get to wear decent warm clothing over the Winter.:D

Well said.

(Did you know...the toy company they buy from is Judius - which E groves used to own so pretty much he was just transferring funds from one company to another.. A lot of people started to get to know this and other centre's boycotted them.

Evidently He now no longer "owns " it but is a major partner in the company that now operates Judius. (Something I heard through the grape vine)
