Movie loving SAHM's group in ACT

Hi ladies,

I'm interested in starting a group of mums who love film to get together, watch movies and talk about them over tea and snacks maybe once a fortnight?
I have a 4 month old daughter and I spend a lot of time hiring dvds and wishing I had some company during the day to watch them (DH at work). Of course, with babies, the pause button will be used a LOT. My house is small but the living might accomodate three other mums.

Fantastic! I'm on the north side too. When would you like to get together? Lil Mamma, how long do you have Dreamgirls and LMS for? I've got a susbcription to Bigpond Movies (yes, I'm addicted...) so I'm waiting on films like: The White Masai, The Manual of Love (Italian comedy), some more chick flicks (The Break Up) and the odd foreign film. If we have a few options we can always vote to decide which one to watch as long as none of us have seen it.
I was thinking we could do a Tues or Wed morning from 10-ish to 12-ish but I'm open to suggestions. We could all bring something to nibble on or drink but I wouldn't fuss too much about that (simple is good!). I'd bring a mat or a blanket to put your bub on and of course you're welcome to use the nursery to change nappies, etc.

Uh oh, not really because my baby isn't mobile yet so we haven't even bothered with any house-proofing. Is this a problem? Could you bring his favourite toys? A playpen? Sorry! I don't know what to suggest (first baby, I'm pretty ignorant still!)

I’m delighted that there have been quite a few mums interested in this idea.:yelclap:
Because I think most of the mums have toddlers and it's five girls as opposed to my idea of three that would like to join, I was going to suggest we meet at the Dendy in Canberra Centre for 'Reel Mums' (a special screening for mothers every Thus at 10am -$14- and their children –under 5s free- with dimmed lights and adequate sound levels for children) next Thursday instead of my place because:
a) we wouldn't really fit and I’d like to meet/include everyone.
b) babies can lie on the floor with blanket and toys or on mother’s laps therefore making it easier to watch a movie. I apologise about this comment, maybe I should have been more specific about my idea of it being very young babies.
c) My house isn't childproofed (yet)! I’m a bit nervous about everyone being stressed.
I'm very interested in meeting everyone instead of calling off our date.
I'm also keen on meeting other mothers and am trying to arrange something that suits everyone. If you’d like to come to on Thursday we can talk about everyone’s ideas (for example how often to meet at the Dendy because fourteen dollars a week might not be so doable, maybe meet once a fortnight or when there’s a movie many want to watch) and listen to suggestions or just have a chat over cake!

ok here is girls some ideas from me!.... um belconen is showing 'music + lyrics' with drew barrymore tomoro at 10 me and happy_neu are going we were gona goto tuggers but we culd goto belco? Dendy is good too... Dendy screens every wk and hoyts every
2nd I wonder if ppl would b interested in changing the meet every week? mayb one week at the movies say north side then the next wk coffee in civic then I wuld open up my house for coffee + movie? we have a cappicino machine and lots of toys.... Up to you dont mind just a few suggestions I know me and happy_neu have been looking for a playgroup and havent been happy with the ones weve tried, last wk I went to one and they didnt talk to me...

Nozzy I am happy with the Dendy session for next week and any other time in the future. I am really easy at this stage as I have no bubs so I can do almost anything.

Shinebrite I agree it is fair to change around the location so as to suit everyone and am happt to do this also. I have seen music and lyrics so wont be joining in on that one (p.s I thought it was not that great of a movie) :laughing:

I think the movie group idea is TOPS :D

Now.. my place isn't huge or anything.. but its a reasonably sized 2bdrm apartment in Kingston, housing just DH, DS and myself. I'd be more then happy to have half a dozen mums over here.

Its not baby proofed, however, its not far off it.. how does that sound? And perhaps we can do a rotation of that? Though my DH I'm sure wouldnt mind 6mummies+bubs coming through each fortnight. We can all bring snacks (nice and easy) sit back (I've got three sofas and lots of carpet) and relax :D (while babies scream on around us) ;)

The bubhub ribbon but obviously we're not all going to have one so maybe a pink ribbon displayed on your bag or pram is a good idea.

FYI - The bub hub ribbon is free and you can order them. If you click on "Bubhub community forums"(top of your page to the left) that takes you to the front page where it is advertised, just click on that and order them from there ;) I was lucky enough they sent me two lots for some reason aso I am also happy to give some out cos I have HEAPS!

I just had a closer look at the Dendy website for 'reel mums' and noticed that there's only one movie per week for this session, that is, one cannot choose the film.
On March 8th the film screening is The Good German (1 hour 48 minutes long, in black and white). I just read some reviews and apparently it's not very good:(
