Hi,

Im keen to start weaning my little one (6 months) of the breast but she refuses formula! She has never liked bottles so we have taught her to drink water from a cup with a spout - which she loves! I tried the formula in the cup and she took a big gulp (thinking it was water) then screwed up her face and refused to sip again!! I'm using Nestle Nan as I was told that S26 and Karicare can cause constipation in some (she already has wind problems so I don't want to risk this!)... any advice? I'm getting worried because I go back to work soon and have noticed my milk supply is slowly dropping off...

hi
well done for breastfeeding for 6 months ,that is such awsome effort .
i was thinking about when i put my 1st DS on formula and how nervous i was that i was doing the right thing .
well i must have because he survived and is now a healthy 4 year old.
i think anyone would agree that getting a cuddle from mum while getting a feed is completely divine ,so it may take your little one awhile to work out what you need her to do now.
as for what other people say about diffrent formulas ,well thats only what works for them and their kids nobody knows what your little one will take too. s26 nver coused me any problems and neither did karicare (i use to buy what ever was on special) all these formulas are made for babies to thrive on you just have to try a few .
have you thought about expressing a feed for her while your at work ?
is she having many bf aday anymore ?she will probally be eating more solids soon.
i know lots of mums like to feed their little ones formula during the day and just keep one bf for the evening .i hope you figure out something that makes you both happy .
id love to know what ends up working for you so dont forget to let us know .good luck
:p

Thanks for the reply mummyb,

The reason I was trying formula was my little one was having a shocking month of 1-2 hourly waking at night!! (she used to sleep for 8 hours!)... I was so sleep deprived that my milk was running low and I was losing weight! Anyway we decided to try control crying and thank goodness we did - it has been a lifesaver! She is now back to normal or better and can put herself to sleep (rather than me rocking for up to an hour!!). I miss putting her to sleep in my arms but don;t miss the waking ALL night!! We make up for cuddles in the day! She still cries for about 15-20min before a sleep (its been 4 days now) and it still breaks my heart BUT we are both sleeping better and BOTH much happier during the day.

She is also now having three solid meals a day which has helped! My breastmilk is back to normal so I'll stick to this for a while!!

By the way I know some mums are anti CC but sometimes I think mums forget about their own health and sanity, I love my little one to pieces but if I'm feeling tired and depressed it's not good for either of us! Ultimately I think I have done the best thing for both of us and of course all little ones are different!!

hello,
I have a similar problem to you.
I have started my 6th on formula and she will drink a few mouthfuls and then thats it. I have tried everything from soya to cows and everything in between.
I was told by one health nurse to make alot of fluid based meals for her with the formula and she may get to like the taste, just add alittle fruit at first and slowly decrease the amount.
I don't know if it will work but it's worth a try.
Also from all the formulas I treid S26 did constipate her I am now going to stick to the heinz formula in Gold as I read it and it is as close to the S26 as you get as it is meant to be the best. Heinze is alos heaps cheaper and hasn't consipated her at all.
