Using Adult Sunscreen on Bubs

I was a bit miffed by my childcare using 'adult' sunscreen on the littlies and only putting it on their face :confused:

I noticed them do this just after I spent $18 on toddler sunscreen and spent considerable time choosing the right one for my DS. :eek:

Two questions: Is it ok to use adult sunscreen? and shouldn't daycare be putting sunscreen on their arms and legs too? What do other daycares do, anyone know? :confused:

cant help much but they should put it onthere arms and legs because at the childcare i do my observations at they have to cover them fully.

Sunscreen should be on all exposed areas if out in the sun

Adult sunscreen is fine ( the rest is a marketing ploy)

at daycare they should put it on any skin that is exposed to the sun, as for the adult sun screen well most of them is fine but if the cild has sensitive skin then it can cause rashes and stuff, at the one DS goes to we have to supply our own

I asked the cancer council about the sun creams and what is the difference and it's the ingredients some are not suitable to toddlers hence the reason for toddler milk. Common sense would say any exposed skin should either be covered or have sun screen on.

When my daughter was at an ABC centre, they put one squirt into each child's hand and the kid had to do their own sunscreen. This was in the TODDLER room, DD was 3. Ridiculous.

Yes, they should be putting sunscreen on all exposed area's.

They are putting the adult Sunscreen even on the little babies.

Firstly yes all exposed areas should be covered with sunscreen...... before the child leaves in the morning, and throughout the day....

As for the adult sunscreen, the reason it is not reccommended for children is there are certain things that young sensitive skin react to, and therefor with baby & toddler sunscreen its usually zinc based, natural.....No other added chemicals IYKWIM....

They probably hate me at childcare specially after I got mad that they wrote on my child's hat with black texta ruining it. :banghead:

Maybe I should raise it with the person in charge of the Centre and not the team leader?

The day care DD goes to uses adult sunscreen too unless a baby or toddler one is brought from home. I don't worry about it myself.
They do cover all exposed skin not just their faces, I would probably have a whinge about that if I where you.

I don;t know if its ok or not but I would stick to baby/toddler sunscreen just in case, I have heard adult sunscreen can course a rash but I don't know if its true or not. :confused:

i use the nivia for kids but adult one should be ok to use as long as they have hats and and a shirt on there ok

At my DD's centre we have to bring in our own sunscreen (so whatever we bring they use on your child whether it be baby, toddler, adult sunscreen as long as it is yours with the child's name on it)

They put it on everywhere (arms, legs, face) and won't let any child outside unless they have a hat on and sunscreen.

They do encourage you to put sunscreen on your kids before they come into the centre so they don't have to spend time doing it :D

I use adult sunscreen on my dd, I checked out the ingredients list and the only difference is the toddler stuff is fragrance free.

they did that to mine too, i was crushed because i had just bought the hat and the writing was horrid. i was also waiting for his name labels to arrive in the mail :(

back to the OP, they should be covering all areas. what would they say if the kids got sunburnt? and i do find it odd that they use adult sunscreen for littlelies. i guess it must we working for them. i use the kids bananaboat sunscreen.

I use adult sunscreen on my DD, seems to be doing good... no side effects

I have used adult sunscreen on my 10 month old since he was 6months old and we have had no adverse effects whatsoever. No rashes, nothing.

Day Care centres often buy their sunscreen bulk in a big pump bottle as it is cheaper. Dont know if there is a kiddy one of them
