View Full Version : how to get cat pee out of a small rug
its a round rug, so can be taken outside, and washed with the hose I guess... or the watering can, given the water restrictions lol, but I used a carpet deodoriser on it, and can still smell it, just wondering if anyone knows of any product that will take the smell away..

Hate to tell you this, but unfortunately sometimes it is IMPOSSIBLE to completely lose the smell of cat urine. Especially if it is a Male Cat!
I hung my rug (100% wool!) on the line for 3 weeks- and even after all that sun, wind and a tiny bit of rain, it still smells like cat wee. And our cat only wee'd a tiny bit on it!!
I tried bi-carb, salt, deoderisers.... just attack it with everything you have, and hope for the besT!!!

or you can clean it with a carpet cleaner, like hire one from woolies OR take it to get professionaly cleaned. Smell should come out with a carpet cleaner if you spend a good half hour going over the stinky spot

Just thought Id offer some sympathy. Nothing in the world smells worse than cat wee. Our cat weed in our old car, I think its pretty obvious why its our "old" car

 Do you think getting it dry cleaned could help?
 Do you think getting it dry cleaned could help? thats sounding too costly ... will try some carpet cleaners first, it didnt cost all that much, probably not worth spending a whole heap on it.

Get washing powder called bio zet(sp) it breaks down the bacteria in the urine. Bacteria is what causes the smell.
Also there is somthing called Urine off, it does similar to the washing powder. You can get it from vets and pet shops its about $20 a bottle.
I would try the washing powder first (less expensive)
Good Luck
