I got up on saturday (17th) morning and was feeling a little bit off so i just laid on the couch most of the morning while DD watched some tv and played. I started to get a few little niggling pains in my tummy, much like period pains but they were very irregular and about 20 - 30 mins apart. They came and went for most of the day.

DP came home from work and did the vacuuming for me and i got up and started to clean the kitchen and bathrooms. My pains started to get worse then but i just kept on cleaning! By the time i stopped at 6pm the pains were bearable but bad enough for me to sit down and time them. They were 6 mins apart and lasting for about 30 - 40 secs...

As DP was meant to be having his final 'boys night out' that night i had been joking to him during the day that he might not be going out, so when i told him that the pains were 6 mins apart and that i was going to call the hospital he just assumed it was part of a plan so he wouldnt go out lol!!

I rang the hospital at 6.35pm and told them how far apart the pains were etc but that they were bearable and the midwife told me to just stay at home until they get rather painful. I then informed her that my labour with DD was really fast (1.5 hours) and she told me to come in and get checked, just in case.

We got to the hospital at about 7pm, DD still in tow, and they took me into the examination room (as apparently i looked too well to be in full blown labour!) to check me over. The midwife confirmed that i was having real contractions and then did an internal. I was already 6 cms dilated!! When she finished the internal my show came out too and she said that she could feel the membranes bulging and that she wanted to break them.

We very quickly called DP's folks to come and get DD. They got there and the midwives had already moved me into the birthing suites. I was now 7.5cms dilated at 7.30pm.

They broke my waters and told me to tell them every time i had a contraction as apparently i wasnt making any noise so they couldnt tell lol!

The contractions kept coming for the next 1 hour and at 8.30pm i told the midwife that i needed to push! DP put his gloves on and 9 mins later he delivered our beautiful baby boy!

It was a fantastic birth! I am so pleased to say that i did it without any drugs, no tears, no stitches and no complications.

Griffin weighed a tiny but healthy 6lb 5oz (2.86kg), he was 47cm long and had a head circumference of 33cm.
