I am definately going to attempt breast feeding. With DS I breastfed for 6 weeks and then ran out of milk :( . Poor little thing wasnt getting enough, you should have seen him guzzle down that first bottle I gave him! But this time I hope it is different, I would love to BF for at least 6 mths.
I would love to say I would be a Super Mum and use Cloth Nappies like my mother did and like her mother did etc. I used Cloth for DS until he was about 6 mths old and then got sick of it and switched to disposable. I think I will try using Cloth at first but I reckon I will get sick of it a little quicker this time round :o .

I to would like to be a super mum with breast feeding and using cloth nappies.

For this one I know I will be using disposables but I'm really going to try breast feeding this time, (I gave up to quickly with my DS).

i'll be breast feeding with the odd bottle here and there with EBM

with the nappies, i'm probably use disposables, but i'm thinking of getting some MCN's as they are handy if you run out of sposies, and if I like them then i'll buy more

With my last pregnancy I breastfed (actually 18mths latering I'm still bfing) and did cloth for the 1st six months, then I went back to work, got lazy and went to 'sposies. I did have a nappy service for the first 3 months (one of the best presents ever from my parents), and didn't know enough about MCN, so just used terry flats after that.
With this pregnancy I plan to breastfeed again and am now looking into MCN for my 18mth old toddler and for the new baby......there are so many to choose from!!

Can someone please explain what MCNs are? I read somewhere that disposable nappies only make up a small percentage of landfill problems. So I can use them without feeling too guilty, plus I've heard they keep the moisture away from the baby a lot better (plus don't leak as much). Anyways, I'm totally new to all of this. I definitely want to try breast feeding but am not looking forward to needing to do it around other people.

Believer are modern cloth nappies, they are really cool and are just like sposies apart from they can be washed, they come in funky colours, and are made up already to put on, looks just like sposie just made of fabric

have a look in the cloth section, i'm sure you'll find lots of info in there

I am going to breastfeed and use MCNs. I may have to use sposies part time as i'm not sure about child care and being out and about.

Believer - def check out the cloth nappy section on this site cos landfill is only part of the problem - and any extra landfill that can be avoided is good with our rapidly warming planet! Lots of water goes into making sposies too.
Theres also lots of choice on different materials used for absorption in MCNs - the days of terry cloth and terry cloth only are gone!!! I couldnt believe how much choice there was available. I'm gonna get some recommendations from the clothies section and try out a few diff types i reckon. I'm also not gonna invest a huge amount in MCNs right away either - they are available from home businesses on ebay and there are also patterns online - (my mums present for bubs will be making me some custom MCNs!!)

NicoleE - I probly need to look into it more, but from what i've read you actually have to compost the biodegradable nappies for them to break down, otherwise they take like 100 years......?

I'm really hoping to BF for longer than I could with DS. He was 10 weeks early so we had problems establishing a good milk supply. Lots of pumping! But at the end of the day, I will do what baby needs. :fingerscrossed: for breastfeeding though!

I did say I'll use disposables, I did with DS. But I hadn't even heard of MCN's, might have to do some research on this, they sound interesting. Thanks for the heads-up.

That is pretty much correct, they wont actually biodegrade fully unless you compost them or get a service that will do it for you. But the nappies are manufactured with the environment in mind to so overall are still way better than normal disposables... Im trying to be realistic as this is my first baby Im not sure how I would cope with the everyday demands and having to wash cloths (not to mention needing to change them more often). I worked in a child care centre for a few years and the only think i remember about cloths was that they stank, had to be changed straight away (not that you would leave the kid in wet/dirty disposables but you always had to keep an eye out IYKWIM) and leaked allot. I figure if i was a kid id rather be in a disposable of some sort than a cloth. But i do see the benefits of the new MCN ranges out there.
These are the ones I will try... i have a couple of samples they have sent me. http://www.nordicnappies.com.au/default.asp

hi there

I will definately be using disposable nappies (love em), as for the feeding I will be giving breast feeding a go. But I will be open to both alternatives. I had a few supply issues with DD, which led to her losing a fair bit of weight when she was first born. Therefore if I have the same lack of supply that I did first time round, I will definately bottle feed. This is my vague plan any way

I definitely want to try breastfeeding!!! This is # 1 for me so will give anything a go.

As for nappies, DH said he would like to go cloth nappies - I kinda like the idea too...so long as I can bring in a couple of nannas for washing duty :) !!

Great idea on the poll !
