My 9 wk old baby has been on s26 AR since he was a few wks old but the last two wks everytime i feed him he does explosive poohs while im feeding him. he doesnt seem sick. The dr did a stool test to check for stomache bugs etc but all came back fine so he has reccomended i put him on a lactose free formula (soy formula he said) and see how that goes. If he is lactose intolerant why is it only showing now in the last two wks. I thought he may be lactose intolerant when he had bad colic in the first few wks of his life but he was fine on the AR.

I don't know why...but my son was similar. He was given' cow's milk formula in hospital a couple of times just after he was born. From there on in I breast fed him.

I was told to supplement his food with formula when he was 4-5months old as he had lost weight due to a bad skin infection. I gave him EXACTLY the same formula as he had been given in hospital and he reacted severely to it and turns out to be highly allergic to any milk based products...I don't understand how he could 'develop ' the allergy either...but you are not alone with things developing later. I guess their little systems are growing and changing so much all the time?

Maybe the 'colic' was a sympton of a lactose tummy ache? I would see your GP and discuss it with them, they will be able to shed some light on it I would have thought.

I hope you find some answers.

i had the same thing with ds. he had some formula in the hospital, then when we went home and i was giving him the same formula he started getting bad on it, he was unsettled and throwing it up, we thought he had colic as well.
we tried most of the formulas (including the AR which he was for a few months and a soy one) b4 we tried the soy we settled on (karicare) there was such a huge improvement though. he was much more settled then! and his poo's were a whole lot nicer!
