Can you take metamucil while breastfeeding or would it give bubs the runs?
Thanx

Yes you can have metamucil but you can't have the tablets, senacot or something like that.
I ask the same thing not long after DS2 was born

Hi there,
I actually suffered from constipation before bub was born and the best product I have ever used is Normacol Plus (Natural fibre plus laxative). It was also given to me in the hospital the day after bub was born. It's really gentle and ALWAYS works. You take a spoonful at night before bed. It's slightly different to most of the others as it is in granule form which you swallow with a glass of water. It's also gluten free.

If you are worried you could try increasing the fibre in your diet before trying metamucil....I dont know much about it but I think metamucil is quite gentle anyway...am I right?

Middies gave me it when i was in hospi and BF - and i took the tablets too, i wasnt told there was a problem - Just make sure with the tablets that you drink the set about with them...

Depending on how particular you are about the things you put in your body and bubs'.....

Metamucil contains aspartame, which is also in diet drinks.... whilst most wouldn't say it is 'harmful' as such it can have some nasty side effects.....

My OB suggested metamucil to me at my 6 week check up. i wonder if the "original" flavour has the sweetener, or is it only the orange flavoured? You can also buy psyllum husks at health stores, it is sort of the same thing (but tastes and feels like you're drinking shredded bran).

It's not anything in it that "makes" you runny (like a laxative), it is the soluble fibre that pushes through your system, making everything move again.

Cheers

They gave me normacol when I was in hospital after the birth.

A couple of months after that, I had a fissure:eek: (oh god the pain) and the specialist put me on metamucil, which I'm still taking. Definitely doesn't cause baby runs as Ella is a 3-4 day poo-er!:p

The normal one is ok but I reckon the smooth texture one tastes disgusting.
