What's the rule of thumb on estimating a person's final height from their height when they were 2? I know I've seen it mentioned on here but can't find it.
DD just turned 2, so I'm curious. I think she's going to be taller than her poor old mum (not hard to do!)

Hi,
It's their height at age 2 multiplied by 2. I asked the child health nurse about this when Jesse was 2 and she said it was a bit 'hit and miss' - she's got 3 children, 1 was taller, 1 was shorter and 1 was correct. There's no harm in doing it though!
I remember something being mentioned that because girls and boys have their growth spurts at different ages (ie/ generally girls are taller than boys at a younger age and then boys shoot up) that this 'rule' isn't always accurate.

Carly is right, it is just a general guide but it is usually pretty close. You can also find hight predictors for children under the age of two but they're a bit hit or miss too :)

Just to be pedantic, I've heard that you double their height at age two and a quarter! My son was 95cm at that (still is at 2 and a half) which means he will be 188cm!! Sounds about right as dh and I are both 185 ;)

I'm back again...
I've just been online and used three different height predictors.
They came back with 3 different answers - 6ft, 6ft 1 and 6ft 3!
Only time will tell!!

My GP told me that the double height at two is a reasonable approximation - which means that DD1 is going to be about 180 cm - and even if she is a bit less that is still amazing to me given that I am 155cm! Her little sister is showing signs of being a similar height - they will be bossing around their little mum I think!
I've heard that for boys it's double the height at two, but for girls it's double the height at 18 months. My health nurse calculated both my kids will be 5ft 10. I can believe my DD will be that tall because she is taller than a lot of 3 yr olds at 2 1/2! But I'm only 5ft 5!
I have done various height predictors for both of my kids and they all say around the same thing as doubling their height at around 2yo.
Bella - 5'10"
Daniel - 6'5"
I tend to believe them as they kids seem to be a lot taller than Mark and I around the same ages.

Oh Boy I wouldnt want to be feeding your kids when they're about 16/17 LOL Kyra is there something in the water down your way or what?????
It's not just going to be when they are teenagers - lol! :o
They already have teenage tendencies ... they moan and groan when I try to wake them in the morning and ask for "just 5 minutes more sleep, Mum" and also stand in front of the fridge with the door open, just staring into it waiting for food to leap into their mouth!
They are always hungry already!
The first time I ate out with their Dad, we went to McDonalds in Taupo, NZ and he ordered 6 burgers, a small fried and a diet coke! He ate the lot and then went back for a sundae! Fortunately, he doesn't eat like that any more :D
I am going to have to send dh out for a second job before long ... they are already eating me out of house and home!
