I have two male dogs. I was advised to get them desexed unless I planned to breed them (which I dont) I can't recall any humping since.

How old is he?

I got Cougar done at 6 months (recommended age), as he had a bit of an aggressive tendency, and i hoped it would settle him down (which it has). (Although he never learnt to **** his leg either, so i have a 18 month old dog who squats like a girl!) He never really got to the age of humping everything, LOL, so i can't help there...

The earlier the better i reckon...beats me why they don't allow you to do them as young as the RSPCA does them.

My pup is just 3 months old and he humps as soon as my leg is stretched out or he sees a slipper

I don't think he even knows why he is humping cos he doesnt get aroused IYKWIM lol

You have to wait until they are 6 months old anyway so I say get use to him humping ha ha ha

My IL's pup done this and it was 3 months old... But worst of all the mutt done it to my son and everyone but me thought it was funny..The dog would knock my son to the ground and get going......

I know its not the dogs fault but I got quiet p!ssed off at it, and just kept sternly telling him NO, and pulling him away whenever he tried to do it. Now he has stopped....

So just constant reinforcement, and yes I would reccommend getting him desexed, I got my mum's dog desexed young, less traumatic for them, heals quicker....and he doesnt **** his leg to pee either.......

Hi,
humping is usually a dominance thing that is why unsterilised males tend to hump peoples legs etc, humping of toys is a common thing, sterilising usually helps depending on age, it also takes up to 6 weeeks for all the hormones to disipate after sterilisation, there are reason the RSPCA sterilise at 6-8 weeks they are trying to stop the senseless and preventable euthanasia of thousands of dogs each year there is an increased anaesthetic risk and it is probably a harder surgery to perform but the benefits outway the downside, the reason vets do them at 6 months is that you already have your dog so it is your choice whether to sterilise or not so why take a chance.

My parents had a female poodle that used to do the same thing to their cat - weird.

I have a female jack russell x who also does this to our female labradoodle (only when she is sitting though). It is definitely a dominance thing.

We have a 4 yr old beagle and he still humps. We had he de sexed at 6 months, and i asked the vet about it and they said it was a learnt behavier.
He loved humping teddy bears the most.
Now he humps any kind of towel or blanket laying around, drags it into the garden and goes for it. We are never home when he does it..

well I had the same issue. Our puppy was being a humper.

I got him desexed and he has slowed down but every now and then he still will.

I think they say to wait as the hormones help them grow. If they are not aggressive or humping everything then its better to wait.

I got my bub done at 6 months

Exactly the same here. From the day we bought our puppy home, he would hump everything. It did bring plenty of laughter to our happy home when people who came to see the new puppy would see how much he loved his toys and bed.:o

We had him desexed as well but he still did it, especially to boy dogs  He is a little older now so can't be bothered so much. It was all harmless, never with people and only slightly embarassing so we learnt to live with it.
