I am currently in the process of getting down to my goal weight ... 23kg's down and 10 to go. My current BMI is 27.5 so I'm not too far off my healthy weight range.

I've included a link to a BMI calculator.

The calculator gives an indication as to what is considered a healthy weight based on your height. The BMI Index is based on average height to weight ratios. If you're extra muscular, have a large frame, slight frame, pregnant or breast-feeding, the reading may not accurately reflect your weight.

Body Mass Index Calculator (http://www.mydr.com.au/tools/bodymass.asp)

It's only a guide!

As far as I'm concerned, BMI calculations do not show a true picture of body health. You can have high muscle mass and low fat mass and still register as obese on the BMI scale. It is a reasonable guide though.

now i feel awful, lol. im 33 so i need to get down to 25 on the BMI scale, a bit of work. I don't actually eat heaps. well i may be classified as obese though i see myself as overweight, man my perception must be warped lol.

It's only a guide Rachel so don't feel bad - there are so many variations of body type ... and as madvoice said "You can have high muscle mass and low fat mass and still register as obese on the BMI scale."

Only you know what the best weight and shape is for you so you be the judge.

Cheers

I think the BMI is slightly dodgy, I mean its a good guide, but it gives no leeway for body type or how much muscle you are carrying.
My BMI is 18, I am not underweight, in fact my butt could still be considered slightly flabby. Im not complaining, I am reasonably happy where I am; but according to the BMI range I could be 20kgs heavier and still be OK, which is heavier than I was 9 months pregnant!! If I was that large and not pregnant I would be seriously obese.
My DHs BMI is 28, according to the thing he has to loose another 10kgs, he is a solid guy, if he lost another 10kgs he would be extremely unhealthily skinny.
So what I am saying is, if you arent within the ideal, dont sweat it, I think you know more about how your body should be than a mathematic calculation.

Thanks Cosmic and OrlandosMum for your kind words - it's actually not been that hard.

My motivation was my two rampant toddlers. Simple - lose weight and have fun with them including getting into some togs for summer or don't lose the weight and miss out on walking, running, going to the park, swimming .... basically just enjoying life with them.

To all of you wanting to lose ... keep the goal in sight.

To those who have already lost - you go girls ... I look forward to hearing of your wins.

Those who have always been slim, the metabolic rate of a rabbit and have never had to diet ... BITE ME :p

Hi all,

My BMI was 17 which is quite  considering I only had a bubby 14 weeks ago. I have to put on 6kg to be in the exceptable area.

Try BMI of 42! I have PCOS and can't lose it without IR medication which I can't take while I'm pregnant. I would kill to be under 30!

To be in the middle of my healthy weight range I need to be about 50kg!

PULEEEZZZEEE at 45 I was still in my healthy weight range but was anorexic looking.....

I'm short but curvy........ I get to 60kg and my body refuses to loose another scrap of weight.....but its okay. I go on hip to waist ratio...that make sme feel MUCH better about myself! LOL
