Is it normal for a 1 month old to fall asleep and then wake up 10 minutes later? Josh is 1 month old and frequently falls asleep only to wake up 5 - 20 minutes later and then he'll stay awake. He can be sound asleep, wrapped up, in his bassinette with no change in room temperature, noise or light and yet he wakes up soon after he gets to sleep. This is particularly an issue overnight when we might spend hours getting him to sleep, only to have him wake up again 10 minutes after he finally gets to sleep.

We think he might have reflux and that might explain why he wakes up when put down after a big feed. He's started treatment for reflux today and I'm hoping for an improvement in his sleep, but am I hoping in vain? Is it normal for this sort of sleep pattern to occur?

I read all these things about how to settle a baby and in reality settling him is not a major issue, he usually settles well ... he just wakes up quickly about 50% of the time!

Have you tried to keep him awake for say 20 mins after a feed so his stomach settles a bit. Putting him down with a full stomach might be the problem.

I dont know if it is normal or not, but my DS did that for a while!! Spent most of his days awake too.... would sleep on average 20 mins to an hour per day... He had a lot of wind, the doc (at our checkup) suggested i put a blanket under his mattress in the cot so he was on a bit of an angle (head up) so the wind wouldnt be trapped, and that sorted him out (altho not during the day ) Hope it all improves for you :hugs:

Try feed - play/awake time - sleep as a routine.
And have a radio on during the day in babes room.
Good luck
