I have heard differing opinions on this topic so thought i would come and ask 'the experts.'

DS is 8 months old and is still breastfed (he has one formula feed at night though). I find it very hard to express as i never get much and it takes me ages!! So can i add cows milk to his cereal at this age?

Thanks guys.

Yes you can!

You shouldn't use cows milk as a replacement for breast milk or formula, but you can definitely use it in the preparation of foods like cereal, custard etc.

You could also use formula or soy milk, water, pureed fruit.

Thanks Nicole.
I have been using pureed fruit and water but he seems to prefer it when he has breastmilk instead of water.
But as this is such a hassle, i will try cow's milk.

Would it be better to use formula or cows milk?

I started using cows milk on cereal at about 7 months, my little girl was eating yoghurt and that is made from cows milk so I figured it was ok.

Even the baby yoghurts that recommend from 6 months are made on cows milk so the little amount added to cereal should be fine

I BF and bottle feed ( formula) my son who is 8 1/2 months old. As you are already giving him formula and i assume other dairy products cows milk on his breakfast cereal is fine. It is only the bottles that you are not supposed to use cows milk until 12 months of age. Having said that my daughter self weaned at 7 months and refused a bottle ( expresssed or formula ), so i had little choice but to offer her other dairy products and iron rich foods.
Good luck
