Just wondering if anyone has picked names yet. My hubby and I are already arguing about it. I'm thinking Charlie for a girl and no idea for a boy yet. I'd love some ideas.

Great to see this thread, I am very curious and looking forward to hearing what other October mums are thinking re:baby names.
DH and I had lots of trouble in my 1st pregnancy coming up with names and now with this one, its no different. Its hard to find names we agree on, boys or girls. I find girls names a bit easier. I have a feeling I'm having a boy and with our surname ending in 'en', it means that boys names ending in 'in', 'en', 'on' etc, don't sound that good, which is a shame because lots of boys names end in 'n' eg Dylan, Declan, Byron, Aidan, Nathan, Ethan, etc.
At the moment, I like Arielle for a girl and Jarvis for a boy, but this changes on a daily basis. DH likes Emile for a boy and Ludovine for a girl.

DH & i are definatly going to have troubles with this!
I like unusual names and he likes more common ones!
My favourite girls name is Jahzara which means blessed princess in african.
As for boys, i dont have one that REALLy stands out but love Harper (a very old name)
I'd paste my lists for you but there are over 100 names on it!

I hope you guys give us some more ideas. We to are stuck on boys names so far it would be Nicholas David - but not totally sold. We like it but I do not think love it.
Girls will be Maddison Ann (Ann a bit of a family thing) I really like MAddison then she can also be MAddy.
Keeping in mind it took us a week after DS to name hime so I am sure this time will be the same.

Girl we both like Olivia (Livvy) and Charli, I also like Grace & Morgan
Boys - Ethan, Oliver (but then if we had a girl second couldnt call her Olivia!!!) decisions decisions.
Lachlan is very popular at the moment! I know two girls in the past month who've named their DB Lachlan!
Jester - I love Maddy so cute.

I don't know why I haven't given this as much thought this early into my 2nd pregnancy, first time round I had a list a mile long by now.
For now though,
Girls - Lucy, Annabel, Sophie
Boys - Sam, Harry, Hamish
My husband and I both agreed on a name we really liked the other day, I can't even remember it now. But the ones we have are fairly 'safe' names, nothing too out of the ordinary. Hubby is a teacher and says he comes across some pretty weird ones!
Someone said they like the name Seth. You know we've had about 7 babies born into our family in the last 2-3years and 2 of them are called Seth. You're right, and we think it's a lovely name, too.

DH now likes Nero for a boy and Alizee (alee-zay) for a girl atm. I like Jasper or Alistair for a boy and Zabine or Micheline for a girl. As I mentioned before it changes daily, its just so hard to pick

DH and I are going to have a hard time deciding on names also. We've been tossing names around for the last 2 1/2 years but can't decide on any. I really like Skyler Sage but he doesn't. The boys names that I like are Tristan and Sheldon but my hubby likes more traditional ones. We're going to have a hard time becuase I'm a teacher and have worked at tough schools most of my career. So unfortunately I've had some very difficult kids with great names.

My DH and I simply cannot agree on a boys name! We got a list of girls names we like though but I cant find the list! I put it away after I had m/c now I got pregnant brain again and god knows where I have put it. From memory Taneisha was one of the girls names we like. I love Connor for a boy but DH doesnt like it.

Hhmmm names.....this is a tricky one!
DH and I are lucky as it seems that we pretty much like the same names for boys and girls which makes life a bit less stressful.
Boys - Finlay, Jonti, Braxton (yes I know what Braxton Hicks are :) ) .
Girls (I find this one harder!!) - Laila, Ava, Isla, Tahlia. Hmm can anyone see a pattern here
That's it for now, but Im sure it's not the end of it!

When I was pregnant last time we had a few names we really liked so we are going to have them for this one.
Boy: Liam
Girl : Ava Louise
I do like Liam but I could change my mind with it, if I come across something better, but my DH love Liam - so we shall see.
Also we have a long crappy surname so we need a short simple first name.

Hi girls,
my shortlist is
Alexis
Gabriella/e
Mirabella/e
Giselle
Gianna
possibly a middle name of Charity but not sure yet
With DH working away and our nightly phone calls mostly updates on what the kids have been doing, what needs to be done the names discussion has been put on the back burner sadly. Of course in the past we've had veto right straight up so these could all be shot down straight up but will just have to wait and see I guess

Rose

I LOVE Hamish (and Angus, and Campbell etc), but my conservative old englishman DH says we're not having a scottish name because we're not scottish - how ridiculous!!! Ah well, apparently all his pommy friends would laugh at us so thems the breaks.
So we are down to Jemima, Molly and Camilla for girls and Freddie, James and Sam for boys.... All of which I love to be honest, so we'll just ponder those for the next few months!

As I've posted before we will name DD Charlotte Charlie for short Lucy. They are old family names on my side and the only ones we could agree on.
It it is a boy (they are mistaken) it is Riley - although my Director at work who is due 7 weeks before me and having a boy decided to use Riley after hearing it from me. Luckily I'm having a girl otherwise I would have been pi**ed - lesson for me to keep my big moth shut:rolleyes: !!
Do you think it is wrong to use a name you've heard from someone you know who will be potentially using that name? Especially if you're likely to keep in contact with them (we live 10 mins apart) and will be working together again when back from maternity leave early next year??
I liked different names too like Ebony, Grace and Tala (means hunting wolf in American Indian!) but DH hated them all :banghead: Why oh why is it so hard???

Thanks Jude, I thought it was sweet too. DH is being VERY picky atm which is driving me nuts but hey bub has a first name so that's the main thing! Then he said what about a boys name just in case? and I pulled out Ethan Mayer (which was our name from when were having DD) and he said yep, great I'm so glad I didn't want to have to come up with another boys name.
I LOVE Hamish (and Angus, and Campbell etc), but my conservative old englishman DH says we're not having a scottish name because we're not scottish - how ridiculous!!! Ah well, apparently all his pommy friends would laugh at us so thems the breaks.
It's true they would! I have some very Pommie friends and they are very funny about names.
My DH and I are a rather mixed bag. He is part German, English, Madagascan and something else. I'm half Scottish, part English and part Gypsy (and a few other things also but no one remembers/knows what lol)
So as you can imagine it can be difficult and we don't give family an option for an opinion on our names otherwise we'd be in trouble I think

I'd be a bit peeved but realise that is unfortunately the problem when mentioning names (and I bet you'll never do it again right?)
On the DH I completely understand!! Mine has only been given
Ok our list has changed a bit
Girls - Honey, Mirabella, Evangaline
Boys - we still can't agree on one. I like Maddox atm but that could change any moment.

Hehe Stu loved Alaura Dannan from Willow :D - I liked it too - but he loved Caelie more. Nevermind - won;t use either cos we are stopping at two most likely. And if we had a third I would really love another boy - don't think I could handle a mini me!! If we did - I think I would move to Mexico and let Stu deal with her hormones when she hits puberty!!
As for name pinching - I really hate it!! We named Brion's middle name after his Poppy (Stu's Dad) which meant a lot to both - cos I see him as my Dad too (mine has never been around). Then this yr Stu's sister used it too! As her 3rd child's middle name - without asking!!! She has already used 4 family names for her first two!! Really wished she could have left that one name just for Brion.

That is so weird, when I was little, my bestie and I did the girlie thing and picked out names for our future kids and I was always going to call my DD 'Evangeline Lily', of course, decades later when I was pregnant I still liked the name, but its association with that actress, its popularity and the fact that my (now former) bestie used it for her DD ..........turned me off it, although I still like the name!!
Also two of my other close friends have named their DD's Lily, my mum's name is Eva........so after all that DH doesn't think we should use any of them.
In my last pregnancy, DH wanted to call DD either Wynter or Willow, I liked the name Zoe.
Funny how this time we are steering clear of names we liked last time. Middles names are very hard for us this time round too.

Im not sure how i feel about calling our daughter by this name knowing about this.
But I also like Astrid just as much if we have a girl i will call her Astrid and think on Amity for the next one.....?! what do you guys think?

Well I made the mistake of telling my mum our choice of baby name which is Toby. She absolutley hates it and says she daren't tell anyone because she thinks it's that bad. I got an email this morning saying she's sorry but thinks it's a shame when there are so many other 'lovely' baby names about. My reply was rather harsh,I told her basically to keep her opinions to herself and that it is our choice, not hers. Not looking forward to our next conversation but I had to get it off my chest!
Anyone else had this problem? I know one thing I'm not discussing baby names with family again.

Claire i know its no consolation but I quite like Toby!
I know what you mean though, when thinking of names (before we knew it was a girl) i told my Mum i liked the name Hamish.. her reaction... "Oh, thats a dogs name!" Turns out some old nextdoor neighbour (that was nasty but this was almost 20 years ago!) had a dog called Hamish... I didnt dare tell her a lady i sit next to at work has a dog called Hamish to!
Needless to say the name we have chosen for our little girl we are not telling anyone (well family and flesh friends - i.e not online ones! lol) until the birth. Partly because we dont want odd reations like that but also because we want to keep something as a secret to ourselves until she is born.

Hi Girls
Crystalshireen – That’s a lovely name. I don’t know how you have managed to choose a boys name and not a girls yet. There is so many great names for girls. My DH and I had two gorgeous names for girls picked out and then we found out we are having a boy!
Saremac – I like both those names. Are you going to pick a middle name too?
Mogsy79 – I love Charli for a girl!
Claire – Toby is one I haven’t heard in awhile but its nice. I have had this problem with name picking, family tends to be very opinionated about names. I guess they feel they can be as they are related to the baby but I think it’s a choice that the baby’s mum and dad make and any negative opinions should not be voiced unless an honest opinion is asked for.
Nicole – I agree with the way your dealing with it. This is what I would like to do, make the decision on the name with DH and then keep it to ourselves until the bub comes so that nobody can talk us out of it or voice their opinion on it etc. But unfortunately as soon as we start discussing a name DH goes around and tells the whole world and by the time I have heard everybody’s opinion I am not sure about the name anymore. I need to somehow figure out how to get him to keep his mouth zipped!
Cassie – I love Liberty – I think that is my fav out of all your chosen names but I like them all.
Abeck – No I don’t think it is strange at all. Italian families do that a lot, my DH is Italian so I think a lot of his family is expecting us to have my DH’s name in our baby’s name. I have to admit that I don’t like kids having first names the same as their parents or grandparents but middle names is ok.
We are still trying to decide what to name our bub. DH has stuck to his original choice but I am still not sure about it. I decided a couple weeks ago that I LOVE Bailey but DH doesn’t like it so doesn’t look like I will get my way. Maybe I should ask him again when I am in agonising labour and see if he is willing to give me my own way then! :D
SpaghettiMummy
04-07-2007, 07:17 PM
Cassie- I love Liberty but then I'm rather biased cos that's my DD's name lol. You have a great list I'm sure what ever you choose
abeckaj-I love the names you've chosen! we have our MN's as part of our boy and girl names... except our girl will have my MN and an additional MN. I don't think it's strange as someone else said there are a lot of people who do it... if it does seem too strange you could go for a similar meaning MN (but then that means doing more name searching lol)
Claire- A friend of mine had a little boy earlier this year and called him Toby, I think it's a gorgeous name.
Nicole-we don't give anyone a chance to give an opinion either, though we tell them we've decided on it and that's that lol.
Pebbles-Just after you've pushed the baby out and he says something like "I'm so proud of you" then you say "don't you think Bailey is the best name for him?"

I dont think it is odd to have your names as middle names at all, in fact i think its quite sweet.

I have never watched an Ugly Betty episode... is there an Alexis on there or just a Lexi? (assuming she's not the ugly one  )
I had Alexa on my list of names and DH for some reason suggested Alexis out of the blue, assuming he had heard it somewhere. I thought it would be REALLY hard for us to pick a name we agreed on but this one really stuck. We both loved it and it wasnt too common for me yet not unusual (which suited him). Me not liking common names am quite comfortable with Alexis becoming more popular (i think last year it didnt quite make the top 100) because we love it so much.

I have a dream last night that we had a girl and did call her Mirabella in the end, so I think that's the girls name we will go with.
As for a boys name, we have no idea, if this one is a boy i think that he will have a few days without a name.
As for telling people your choices I wouldn't did it last time and everyone tells you that they don't like the names and to name them .......
There will be 2 Alexis' in October then! :D We are naming our little girl Alexis however have not decided on a middle name...
There maybe 3, cause Alexis is the only name I like on DH's list at the mo, but i'm pushing to have it as a middle name instead of a first name, although it does go as a first name with our sirname, we'll see, its quite a popular name at the mo,
does anyone here take the initials into concideration when choosing a name? the names I want will give this bub the initials MAD, or GAD, so thats putting me off them, but thats only if we use hubbys name for a middle name, otherwise another name I like the initals will be MGD, but hubby doesn't like thoes names

I am really liking all the names mentioned!! Which is a first...
We have decided not to tell anyone other than online people the babys name as everyone knows its a girl and we want to keep that part a surprise.. I dont think my parents or DH's parents would say anything about the name.. they wouldnt dare! I think the only person who may say something is my younger brother who really likes the name Chloe and has said to me many years ago if he had a daughter he'd call her Chloe or something else... but he doesnt look like he'll be having kids as his wife already has a son and doesnt want anymore.. So i'm going with it!
Oh I also love Alexis.. was going to be used as this bubs middle name but dh didnt like it... and I love the boys name Toby and Hamish...

I like Daria, Dreeanna (or Drianna), Danjella in terms of girls names starting with D.
DH has pretty much got his heart set on our new baby having a first name starting with X, middle name Ivy (after his grandmother). I'm not sure what girls names I like eg Anais, Vashti, Charlotte (middle name)..........hmm really lacking inspiration at the moment...lucky I still have 11 weeks or so to go!!
We stopped looking at boys names after the 20 week scan, but DH likes Emil Arthur (names of his fave writers, and also the middle name is of his grandfather, who will share a b'day with this baby), but I like Xavier, Jarvis, Aidan, Byron, etc

Hi girls...
well "women's intuition" has spoken and Charity is not the right name for our baby. So I told my DH and said "it's just not sitting right with me, it just doesn't seem to suit her" LOL... this probably sounds crazy to you all but it's how I came up with the other kids names and they suit them to a "T" so I am sticking with my theory.
I was sitting on it for a few days before mentioning it to my DH (as I wanted an alternative to give him) and then he mentioned his sister said we stole her boys name:rolleyes: (which we were never told by the way) in that the apparently wanted to call their boy Ty which is the NN we use for our DS. Then she went on about how she won't tell us the new boys name they've picked (did I mention they aren't TTC yet?) but the girls name will be Isabella NN Bella.
I still like Mirabella with Mia as the NN so I told DH that and would refuse to let people call her Bella as it's NMS and then that way we wouldn't be copying SIL, but then I'm not 100% sure on Mirabella... lol... oh well I have a bit to decide bub isn't due for just over 12 weeks (I'm saying 13 in my head as I want bub to go over so her birthday is not associated with her great grandmothers and her aunts) and then I have 60 to lodge the forms so it's all good.

I have to be honest - when I hear Mirabella - the first thing that pops into my head is light globes. I think it is pretty - but just hard to shake the assocciation. As for your SIL - stuff her! She can have first dibs when she is pregnant, not before.

Jude - I said to DH, I'm actually pregnant she's not, she'll probably change her mind between now and then anyhow. I'm so over the whole name dibs thing. Plus this is the first time it's been mentioned to us about us "stealing" the boys name "Ty" because that is DS's NN but she always spelt it "Tye" and now I understand why. I'm like come on it's been over 3years we decided in February 2004 what he was going to be called. I personally think Isabella is becoming too popular anyhow so I'm not interested in the name, lol.
On the Mirabella side I am not sure about the name but I got the idea for the name off the movie "Shopgirl" - the main character is Mirabelle, last year and only discovered that we have light globe brand of Mirabella in March this year, lol.

Antlmummy - I love Mirabella, that's the name we are going with if it's a girl. I told a friend and she said it reminds her of toilet paper or feminine hygene services?!?!?!?! I don't care what anyone thinks, not everyone is going to be happy with the name that YOU have chosen for YOUR child.
For a boy we have now chosen Aston.

Mirabella is a lovely name and very unusual.
I dont think of any of these things when i hear it (maybe coz im not aussie?)
Oh and i love Aston too Milliner.

Honestly my hubby changes his mind more then I do and mine's mostly for reasons that I can't actually remember things lol
Anyway we're now thinking about Angelina for our girl's name, any ideas on Middle names?
we were going to use my MN which is Ruth but it doesn't seem to flow well and our last name starts with an E so then the initials would be ARE which seems a bit funny.

Angelina is lovely Antlmummy. Im hopeless at picking out names so have no idea for middle names...
My DH also likes Isabella, im not so sure now that Princess Mary has called her little girl by that name, im sure it will be hugely popular.
I think i prefer Isabel/Isobel.
Oh its all too hard...

maybe it was hard then too and I've just forgotten?

Angelina is lovely. I would go something like "Angelina Josephine" coz I reckon two long names together sounds exotic.

I love the name Angelina! Not too sure on what middle name would go best with it - but I like Ruth - it goes well and it has a family meaning which is special. :)
this naming business is so hard,
I like the name Angelina as well, but everytime I hear that name it reminds me of the series of books ANGELINA BALLERINA for kids,
as for a middle name for it, I would probably go with a single sylable name, like Grace or something like that

How about Rose for a middle name? It is so pretty.
I dontmind Angelina, for something similar, I love Evangeline (can be Eva for short), that was on my list.
(love Evangeline Lily!)
SpaghettiMummy
25-07-2007, 08:05 AM
Nicole - I suggested Evangeline but DH didn't like it, that's how we came up with Angelina. lol.
I think baby will just be known as "baby Ellem" and we'll just deal with the name situation when the baby arrives, as I seem bound to change my mind yet again. lol

We have decided to change the name we've picked from Chloe Ella to Chloe (still undecided) LOL
I like Chloe Amelia
DH likes Chloe Annabel
I want to try and find a nice middle name with the letter A.. I know its silly but DD's middle name is the same as mine and is Anne and thats something special she gets from me.. now this one I dont really have anything to share name wise.. So i am going for the whole same Initals thing..
Any suggestions?
I like Chloe Amelia  they sound lovely together

what about multi cultural names??
I like Zahrayah, (ZAH-RAY-AH) which is chinese meaning princess, and middle name of Tiamo which is Italian for I love you...
No i am not italian or chinese, but i like the names...
what does everyone think about using names that are unusual and multicultural???
nicoleE
25-08-2007, 04:40 PM
I love Zahrayah! There was a trainer at my gym called Saraya - not sure of the spelling but it was pronounced 'sah-ray-ah' which is very similar.
I really loved Jahzara (jah-za-rah) which means Blessed Princess in African however DH didnt like it at all, he is not one for unusual names but I love them! One thing I am careful of when thinking about them however is that they are not too hard to spell and that they sound like they are spelt... I had a maiden name that was very difficult to say and was not pronounced how it spelt and hated it when people said it wrong (not that it was their fault, it was just annoying having to either just take it or just correct them) not to mention having to spell it all the time!

I am bumping this thread up!!

We have decided on our name - but I don't want to share it cos it is different and I don't want it stolen til AFTER he is here :D
Cass - Bree is nice and goes well with Logan - I prefer it as a nickname to Brianna or Breanne though...
Some ideas anyway:
Bree Cassandra
Bree Scarlett
Bree Harper
Bree Georgia
Bree Rachel
Bree Macy
Bree Hailey
Bree Michelle
Bree Mariah
Bree Megan
Bree Kira
Bree Makayla

We have got 2 names for each sex chosen:
Amelie Charlotte (Amelie is pronounced like Emily, but with an 'a' for apple sound at the beginning)
or
Hannah Beth
Harrison Adam
or
Lachlan James
But that being said, we might change our mind once the baby is born as there are plenty of other names on our list that we both like!!!
robinson - I like Chloe Amelia (I used to teach 2 little girls who were best friends and their names were Chloe and Amelia - reminds me of them and they were both such cuties!!)
Cassie - I found myself liking lots of Japanese names as I went through the baby name books, especially for girls; they are very pretty names. But somehow I can't see us fitting a Japanese name to a little blue eyed pale skin kid!!

I totally understand, we are also the same with the girl's name we have picked. X...... and the middle name is still undecided, DH likes Ivy.
For a boy's name DH likes Emil Arthur (Arthur is DH's grandfather's name who is born on 1st Oct and will be 91 this year) but I still prefer Jarvis.
we've chosen our name for this little one  took us a while lol, cause DH and I just couldn't agree on names
so we've decided on
:yelclap: ALEXIS GRACE :yelclap:
its nice to have a name finally

Erin Yeah I liked Amelie Charlotte over Hannah Beth too, but I guess I'm biased!
Hhhhmm Cass to be very honest I don't like the name Afrika, I keep thinking someone spelt Africa incorrectly. Sorry, hope you're not upset by my comment - thought you would rather honesty than a 'that's nice'! And she would be continually telling people how to spell it.

Now ladies, I want an honest opinion. Do you think the name Afrika is just too weird or just a terrible name to use? Anyway, please be honest not nice (yes I like unusual names, but don't want to be cruel to my daughter either, so an outside view is what I need!).
To be honest, I quite like the name Afrika :) I too like something a bit different, but something that people will still be able to pronounce and remember.
I was just trying to step back a bit from it though and imagine possible nicknames that may crop up at school, and I realised that it pretty much has the word 'freak' in the middle
It may never be a problem, but sometimes kids can be cruel... Hope I have not been too blunt or offended :o

YAY Giz! We will both have our October Alexis'!! :D
There are a few nick names that can come from it that are nice to (im a big one for affectionate nick names) I like Lex, Lexi or even Alex. Ours will also get ACE which will be her initials.
mrsgreen663 I have to say that although I love allot of unusual names Im not too fond of Afrika... A bit too unusual for me and Im not fond of the spelling. (sorry, you did want honest!!) :p
I guess though the names I liked most were more uncommon than too unusual (except for Jahzara) I liked unusual names that were not difficult to pronounce or spell and were something that people were not going to screw their nose up on first hearing it. Kids can tease with practically any name so I wasnt too concerned with that (although there are boundaries!)
It is up to you though.... Logan is one of those names (which I love by the way) that is more uncommon than unusual, perhaps something more uncommon would go better with him..?
What are the other names on your list or those that are on the top of it (sorry if you have already posted these elsewhere)....

:smiliedance: what middle name have you chosen? or is it a secret???
MrsG I can't say I like the name Afrika either, all I think about when I say it out loud is the country not a name of a baby iykwim
i'm with nicole, maybe coose something that is more uncommon rather than unusual
Erinp I like Lachlan James for a boy, they just go nicely together, and for a girl neither of thoes names jump out at me, but then again, I find it really hard to like girls names for some reason, boys are so much easier to name lol
Personally I'm leaning more towards the more traditional than fashionable names. I think we are down to about ten. Still keeping it open though - scouring all of the movie credits and occasionally look at the baby name book. The last name we have doesnt allow for alot of the names we like- my maiden name is much easier:p

Thanks for the feedback on the names, everyone.
We toyed with Grace and Cate as middle names to go with Amelie as well, but DH changed his mind (and we may well change our minds again on what we've decided, but we'll see!!).
Cassie - I don't love the name Afrika but I don't dislike it either. I think it's one of those names that has to grow on you. I like it with a k -definitely wouldn't go for a c though your little girl will have to spell it all her life. That's the one thing we don't like about Amelie but we just think it's too pretty to not have it... (unless of course we go with Hannah LOL) In the end it's nice to have the opinions of others but you and DH have to go with what you like.
This nameing business is so hard ay
Nicole lovely middle name  , I recon the single sylabled names go well with Alexis ay
erinp thats the thing with different or names that are just spelt differently, the kids will their whole life explaning how to spell their name lol
but if ya really like the name, I always say go for it, I think Amelie is a lovely sounding name

definatly it is hard, too hard sometimes lol, if only our babies would choose their own names
I have a friend and she's into orrigial names, her first girl she named Daysha (she heard it on some tv program lol) and her first boy she named Dallas (which probably isn't too unique, but it is different)

I don't think Amelie will be too hard to spell (unless the next generation really is less intelligent :D ). I would never think of spelling it any other way by the sound of it. I really like that name, definately different.
 Well maybe they aren't as intelligent! I have tested it out on a few people and have been given some other spellings (Amalee - which I think is awful) and when trying to read it people usually start off going for Amelia and then realise it's different at the end....
definatly it is hard, too hard sometimes lol, if only our babies would choose their own names
Yes I agree!!!! (though it could be interesting to see what they come out with.....
