View Full Version : Getting rid of fleas naturally?
Hi, I'm 15 weeks pregnant and have just been bitten by fleas- well i think it's fleas or some sort of mite. Does anyone know of a good way to get rid of fleas that it safe for use in pregnancy?
Thanks:)
The only ways I have heard of are using salt, it kills them by drying them out, sprinkle it around, then vacuum up later, or using diatomaceous earth, same way.
This is just hearsay, I have not tried it myself, so cannot vouch for efficacy.

I dont know if this is still a problem for you, but placing pine needles, dry lavender or rosemary in your pets bedding will deter fleas as will adding garlic and/or Basil to their food daily. Caution: Garlic makes for stinky bottoms on your pets.

make sure you wash or vacuum bedding, floors, mats etc, vacuuming removes eggs so they dont re infest
Ooh, garlic is toxic for dogs and studies have shown that applying tea tree to the skin & being exposed to the sun can cause 3rd degree burns in animals. Dogs have the most fragile skin of all mammals.
Unless your pets are on a good quality flea preventative (advantage, advocate) you will always have a flea problem. Get your pets on one of these products and you won't be bitten anymore. Keep in mind that fleas can also spread disease so protect your pets.
You can spread lime in your garden also but it doesn't even close to the efficacy of advantage.
Get on top of it quick as one female flea can lay up to 50 eggs every day.

Some good advice there Fizzgig,

You can get lime from Bunnings, just tell them what you want it for and they can tell you how to administer it..Lime will help to kill ground fleas which are the major problem (little buggas are harder to kill) :)
you treat your pet, that way they are a walking fleabomb, thats what I was told by a vet once.

Can you elaborate? not sure i understand...
Can you elaborate? not sure i understand... you treat them with the monthly flea treatment, like advantage, there are a few different ones out there, that way when the fleas jump on the pet, they bite them, and then die. Ask your vet whats the best one.

Oh ok sorry, i definately didnt understand. Thanks for clearing that up.
A reall good one is Advantix which does Fleas/larvae, Mites, Tick (Brown, bush and paralysis) and mosquitoes( cos they pass on heartworm). alot of them will actually kill fleas in their bedding as well.
