Hi,

My bub Hunter was diagnosed with bilateral hydroceals (in his testes). I have seen the specialist who said he would need a check up again at 6 mths and then would look at operating at 2 years if it was not fixed. Told to watch out for a hernea (hope that is spelt almost right).
Just wondering if anyone else had a boy with this problem... what happened... if they had the operation and also if any did get a hernea...
Any info would be greatly appreciated cause i really dont know how concerned i should be...
Thanks,

JnA

I have done some reading on hydrocele, AFAIK it's quite common in babies, and tends to 'correct' itself. Obviously your specialist is astute enough to check for that at the six month mark.

The hernia can develop due to the peritoneum (the lining around all the organs in the abdomen) not closing properly before birth. They call it an inguinal (realting to the scrotum) hernia in this case. You may notice a bulge or a lump when you child is crying or coughing (they can be quite hard to see otherwise)

Now you know about the condition, just keep an eye on it.. look for more inflamation or swelling.. if there is some, back to the specialist.. if not (or no more than usual, if already present) wait until the six month appointment.

All the best.

(please note, I am *not* a doctor, the above is just information :) )

Hi,

I know this is worrying you HM, but you are such a good mummy, and you know hunter well. You will know if there is a problem(ie/ hernia)- and take him to the doc whenever you are concerned!!!

But take each day as it comes- and if there is any issue you know you can call me night or day- (cause we don't sleep in this house  )
I won't be of any help cause Imogen is a girl- but sometimes it's good just to chat!!!

Luv YA,

Shannan
