Hello, we have recently started introducing a small amount of dairy to my 3 year old who had previously been allergic to cows milk protein. He had reacted in the past with vomiting and hives. He has been having the odd spoon of yoghurt and a small amount of cheese with no obvious reaction...that is until i noitced the eczema spreading from under his arms.....ARGH!!! He has never had it before...I have stopped giving him dairy, how long should the eczema take to clear and what can I do to stop it itching and hurting my son???

Becstar it can take 10-14 days to see a change in the excema after eliminating the food that is causing it. Keep the area well covered in plain sorbolene cream (3-4) times a day or more and reduce the baths and showers to a minimum. Maybe try just washing hands/face and bottom etc. Also avoid using soaps of any sort on the area. Only let him wear cotton clothing and make sure he doesn't get too hot and sweaty as it makes the excema worse and even more itchy when they heat up. If you try reintroducing the food at a later date check for 3 days after a dose to see if the excema has flared up. If you want to use one you can get some over the counter steroid creams that will sort it out quickly. It is my understanding that it is better to use the steroid early on and get it under control than have it go on and risk getting an infection and ending up in hospital or on antibiotics. Good luck this what works for my 3 year old.

My DD has had eczema since she was about 8 weeks old and nothing was working. She had allergy ests done and it turns out she has a nut allergy. I have cut out nuts from my diet (shes exclusively breastfed) because i was eating them every day thinking they were good for my milk:o

Anyway, it took about a week and the eczema had pretty much cleared up. She still gets slight patches here and there but it's no where near as bad as it was before. I use a 1% steroid cream on these spots when needed.

She's having further tests done before she starts on solids.

i bathe her in filtered water (my dads house has a filter on the main water supply) once a week at the most and use Hamilton Bath Oil as recommended by the dermatologist. After bathing I put Dermeze all over her body. Then Dermeze twice daily in between bathing.
