Good question Bronny-Jane. DH and I were having the same sort of conversation the other day. Where to find a good local tattooist?
Is there supposed to be someone good in Cessnock? It's my turn next in our house to spend money on a new tattoo:smiliedance: , so hopefully someone on here can help us out...:fingerscrossed:

I got both mine done at the tattooist on Beaumont St in Hamilton... no complaints... not sure how they rate price and quality wise on others... I think they are pretty reasonable....

Tom in town near spotlight used to be great but I don't think he is around anymore...

Hey BJ!

I haven't got a tat at Cessnock, but I did get my tongue pierced there. Nice clean place  I have heard good things about their tatts too.

I got mine done in Maitland. One of the guys there - Josh - is really good.
What are you thinking of getting?

Whereabouts are they in Cessnock, Phineas?? I might have to check them out when I am in there on Friday!
I want my chicken tattoo:smiliedance: .

I was going to suggest Josh in Maitland (next to the cinema). The other guy there did my foot tattoo and he did a great job but I have since heard bad stories about him.
Down Under tattoo's in Charlestown did my first tattoo and they have a great rep too, but Josh is closer to you!

my first tat was down under tattoo's in charlestown its really good, nice delicate lines.

i like bold tribal shapes, patterns etc, i have a fw ive picked out here.... so yeah next step is the tattooist:smiliedance:

i was thinking i'd try cessnock, just to check it out.... sounds good....

my friend just got a nice black chinese dragon on her back from the tattoo shop in newcastle.... now ive got ink fever:D

Sorry to butt in here, but what is a cover up exactly? I am assuming it means a new tatt can go over an old one, yes?? Fully?

If that's true geez i will be thrilled, as my DH really needs to improve a way-outta-date tattoo!! ;)

yeah they tattoo over an old one.... most coverups are so good you'd never know:D

My DH has had a couple of cover ups done (young, silly and trying to impress the ex wife), they look great, you'd never now something else was written there, so now he just needs to cover some old and plain ugly ones...but me first!!
He is coming home tonight as he has to work on the weekend, so we might check out Cessnock tomorrow after speech therapy!!:yelclap:
Better start putting some pennies away:o .

B-J I know what you mean, every time someone I know gets work done, I want to add to my collection!!

Me too - I want more - tattoos are addictive!

I want one on my ankle. I once saw a small, simple tribal-style dragon I really liked

Can they add clothes??? My DH has a hlaf naked woman on his arm and I am sick of rolling over and seeing her in bed. I think she would look much nicer with a skivy (ala Wiggles) on!! And maybe some jeans too.

His tats are really old. Would the new ink look funny over the old stuff?

I found that after a couple of months, the difference in the ink wasn't that noticable...if it's really old stuff, they should be able to cover it completely without much trouble....my DH has a really cr*ppy tattoo of Felix the cat on his butt cheek  (his ex wife loves Felix), and we are getting it covered completely asap with a magpie in flight (die hard collingwood supporters here, but I draw the line at the club emblem on his butt!):D . He wanted to get a portrait of his Grandad, who was the drum major for the royal Scots, in the middle of his back between the 2 scottish flags on his shoulder blades, and I said no way, as I don't want to look at your Grandad when you are sleeping...so that is going on his upper arm instead! Don't ya love compromise.

Ohhh i had to jump in here.... i dont know any good artists in the area but covering up my mistakes of the past is high on the agenda once this bun is cooked!

i HAVE become addicted to Miami Ink AND EVERYTIME I watch i dream of new cover ups. they seem to do great jobs but some people go in there asking for crazy cover ups - no way they could do! its pretty funny. like - where is the eraser i will get rid of this huge black lump here and make it a teeny tiny line....

Thanks for letting me know, you've given me hope Bronny-jane!, as my DH actually has (and don't hold this against me please! ) a tattoo of a face wearing Oakley raybans....yep, pretty sad !! He even admits it's seriously outdated, but we are not sure what to put over it.....will have to sift through some tattoo websites and look at pics :)

"Good old Collingwood forever, they know how to play the game! Side by side they stick together..." another die hard fan here, and i can't wait to get a magpie tatt! :)

Excellent!! My DH is so impressed, even more so as he is a Goulburn lad too, (well Breadalbane anyway). We are so sad, we have a son named Jock (for the great McHale:thumbsup: ), and our dog was called Buckley!!:o My daughters think Nathan Buckley is the BIGGEST spunk too:laughing: .

Hey, maybe the oakley sunnies could be part of a magpie tattoo on your DH;) ....

Hi,
Ive has both my tattoo's done and my peircings done at Tribal Urge in Newcastle. They are fantastic. I havent actually been elsewhere to compare so i may be biased, but i highly recommend them.

I have nothing constructive to add other than a funny story..

One of my girlfriends brothers was in the Army up int he NT - On one of their weekends in town and after copious amounts of alcohol he awoke one morning to find

"100% pure Aussie beef"
tattooed on his rear end..!!

cracks me up just thinking about it!

I had my tattoo done at Crossroads in Glendale. They're really good there. Mine was 9 years ago and I'm still really happy with it. My DH had his covered up at (I think) Tribal Urge, the one in Hunter Street. They did a really good job of it.

I'm wanting to get another one done, probably for my 30th Bday later in the year, I want the chinese symbol for Family, seeing as my family is everything to me, but I have too many kids to list all their names or initials on me! lol :p

x Kate

hey kk, Had to laugh at your msg (feb 07) about Tom the tattooist in newy. He's a close family friend and is now tattooing in Byron Bay. It's great to see the Tommy legend living on!

DH gets his done at Maitland, but I get mine done by Mark at Alien Art in Mayfield... I won 1st place (& got a trophey) at a tattoo show at Milpera last October for 'best female large colour' (& I'm in "Tattoo Downunder" issue #60) & it's still not finished!!!

I always said I'd get a tattoo... so I got just 1 (really big 1!!!).

DH just told me that Josh isn't working at Maitland anymore...

DH gets his done by Jeff (at Maitland) & has for years (since he was working for 'Powerage' in mayfield)... but I think Mark in Mayfield rocks!!! His portrait work is the best I've seen too.
