View Full Version : Discrepancy In Due Dates
Hi All,
This is my first post in the August section as i only found out when i was due this morning.
I was unsure of the dates as i had spotting/light periods etc. Only did the test on a hunch, then had it confirmed by blood test. Dr told me 6-10 weeks based on hormone levels, but when i went for a dating ultrasound this morning, the sonographer said i was due on the 23.8.07. I then saw my dr who calculated the due date as the 26.8.07. Why is there three days difference?
i'm not an august mum but thought i'd poke my head in and say i was given an 8 day discrepancy. drove me nuts and i went 8 days over my latest date. i think once you have the first scan, they will narrow it down for you.
Hi Owen and Noah's Mum.
I had the first ultrasound this morning. Which do i trust my dr or the sonographer?
definitly the sonographer. they can measure bubs limbs etc which indicate age almost to the day of gestation. doctors can only guess. my doc gave me the 10th of jan and the sonographer gave me the 18th of jan and i had bubs on the 26th of jan. :D
and i forgot to add CONGRATULATIONS on the baby!

Hi Kanne,
Congratuatlions! I would go by the sonographer's date for sure. The method that doctors use to date a pregnancy is based on the average ovulation day so you may ovulate a little earlier or later (like me!). The scan is much more accurate.

Congratulations Kanne,
Frustratingly your doctor and the hospital will probably continue to use their date, based on your last period, even though the scan is probably more accurate! I find it easier to use the doctors, even though my scan was 5 days ahead, saves confusion and in the end, like Owen & Noahs Mum pointed out...they come when they want to!
Good luck and we hope to chat to you more here in the August MMummies to be Threads.
I have a similar problem - as I know exactly when I ovulated because I was on clomid, temping, using opk's and charting. So according to my o date my EDD would be 22/08. Then when I went for my first scan at 6 weeks they said I was a week behind that. At my 12 week scan they said I was 3.5 (half a week) days behind but gave me an EDD of 27/08. My Dr says she would pick a date in the middle roughly 24/08 - so in other words I am just gonna have to wait and see :banghead:
It is so confusing isn't it!
Same here. I know when my LMP was yet ultrasound put me as one week ahead.
This happened last time too, DS ended up coming on LMP date.
I prefer to keep with LMP date (which is kinda hard if you had spotting etc). Even though i would love to say i am 14 1/2 weeks (when i am 13 1/2 weeks) it would mean if i did go overdue, it could be by 3 weeks rather than 2........if that makes sense? At the end when you have had enough days feel like years!!!

Kanne,
I just wanted to say I have been given so many dates that it become stupidly comfusing! So In the end, I thought to heck with them all. I would be happy to go from what the Ultrasound Technician - Sonographer, told me at my last ultrasound that I was due April the 5th. I thought if anyone knew that accurately, it most surely will be them because they had all of bubba's measurements. I have been given the due date of the 3rd April, by an Obstetrician at the hospital that I HAVE NEVER EVER SEEN! So I thought, well, I am just sticking to the 5th April..!
It is sooooooooooooooo annoying!
Hi Kanne - congratualtions on your pregnancy!
Three days is nothing hun! My OB recently gave me a two week window. My first was a week over.
I don't think that your bub would have been listening to the doc or the US tech to know when it is meant to come. It'll come out when it's ready.
Good luck with it all.
Hi Kanne. Congratulations!!
I wouldn't be too concerned about a 3 day difference. Pick the one that you like for now. They will prob re-date you at your 18-20 week scan anyway.
I am up to my 4th due date... :banghead:
I've had (in this order):
7 Aug based on ovulation (my calc)
25 July based on LMP
24 July says midwife
30 July says sonographer - and this is the date I'm now going by, but I have another scan next week :smiliedance: so I won't be surprised if they change it again.
I think EXACT due dates are really only important if you need to be induced - othewise bubs will come when it is ready. :D
Hi All.
Thanks for your advice.
I guess i will just have to wait. Just annoying.
But i am sure it will change amyway with the next scans.
