Hi,
DS is 6 weeks old. Was diagnosed with reflux a couple weeks back after having all the classic symptoms (my daughter also had reflux). He is on Zantac and seemed to come good straight away.
The last few nights he has been screaming inconsolably for at least 4 hours around the same time each night. It seems as though it is a bad case of wind, ive been pumping his legs, rubbing his tummy, etc etc..to no avail.
It is that cruel that even i end up in tears!! Not sure whether it is classed as wind, or if its colic?? Anyone had any similar probs , or any ideas of how to help with wind.??
(Have tried Marina, Infants friend, Warm water)
If none of the colic remedies work, then I would say it is reflux. Zantac will only help reflux, so if it did something and made him better then it is reflux.
The first thing with zantac is it needs to be increased regularly with increasing weight or you may find that the symptoms come back. 6 weeks is a typical time that things may start to become worse.
If things are getting worse you may need a medication change to losec which is a great medication but not a lot of drs will prescribe it.

 my DD had colic for around the first 6 months of life.
she still sometimes has troubles with doing poos.
I used gripe water from when she was around 3 months old ( in hindsight i cant believe i didnt introduce it sooner!)
I also used infants friend and infacol to get the wind up
her tummy used to get rock solid! try giving ur bub a massage in the lower tummy area and u'll see what I mean.
Best of luck I know how excruciating it is for you , especially not knowing what is wrong and what to do.
My DD got better aswell if I ate fennel seeds or had a cup of peppermint tea before I breastfed her too...:fingerscrossed:

Hi
My DD had silent reflux and it was hell, I can still cry thinking about it - so first thing is a big :hugs: for you and your bub.
Are you b/f or f/f? If f/f - is it thickened? This can help keep the formula down which can reduce the reflux slightly.
How have the number 2's been doing?
Bub may be constipated, we had issues with that. If their number 2's are a bit slow or hard, try some prune juice watered down. I used to make a 20/80 mix (like cordial) and then using a syringe give bub 2mls morning and night. It helped soften it up.
Other remedies, Infacol can help if it is tummy wind. I also found some releif from changing teats to the colic/reflux ones.
I also used massage, rubbing their tummy, gently moving their legs backwards and forwards etc..
I also found that I had to carry bub around upright on my chest for hours at a time, rocking and singing. I even sometimes slept propped up on pillows with bub on me - rest at any costs!
Our worst time was from 6-12 weeks, you can cyber punch me for that one! But, it did get better after that. Please PM me if you want some more info or support.
Hang in there, get as much rest as you can, hug bub as much as you can and grit your teeth if you have to. Do not stress about hte house, garden, etc... they can all wait. It is a horrible time with reflux, one day it will be over...

my daughter has reflux too, We are using a herbal tincture of rhubarb and ginger, it is absolutely awesome, it gets wind up, deals with colic, constipation, reflux. We feel that it has worked for us. she is such a happy thing now, sleeping like a dream. We found the Zantac was really hard on her tummy and often made her grizzlier. The Paed said that can be a side effect for some kids.
The company sends it out, it's from NZ but well worth the international call.
PM me if you want the contact details.
