Hiya,

Can i ask exactly what is involved when you are an egg donor? Sorry, don't know much about it myself. I would love to be able to help if i can, but obviously need lots of info first! Can you direct me to a particular website that is good to learn more, or just give me the basics to start with?

Ta muchly,Lisa.

Hi Lisa - thanks so much for your interest in egg donation :yelclap: . I have copied this from my clinic's website and added a few comments in red: The process begins by synchronising the menstrual cycles of the donor and recipient (using the pill). The donor then undergoes a cycle of ovarian stimulation with the aim of producing as many eggs as possible (very easy, painless daily injections of ready made up drug, into stomach, below waist and to the side of naval, usually our fattest part of our belly. Injection usually comes in a ready made up pen). As the donor reaches the point of ovulation, the recipient begins taking estrogen and progesterone to prepare the lining of her uterus. The eggs are collected (can be under general or local anesthetic, I have had done many times under IVF and I found no pain,) and fertilised with sperm from the recipients partner. Resulting embryos are observed and the best chosen for transfer. Any other viable embryos are frozen for later attempts.

You will also have to have a few blood tests, to test your FSH before proceeding, this gives an idication of your orvarian reserve, and to check on your estrogen levels during the cycle. This will also imact level of meds given, The meds can make a you a bit bloated and a bit moody but nothing different to PMS. You would also have to have a few scan to check on egg numbers and development. It is honestly not a bad experience, I have had numberous IVF's so I know exactly what it feels like, I was always amazed at the experience and humbled by the chance to get pregnant this way (even thought I did not). It of course takes a very special person to donate her eggs and I can only imagine these from my prespective as a reciepient. You would also have to undergo a counselling sesssion or two to make sure you had considered all the issues. You also need to conisder your family - husband, rellies if you decide to tell them you are thinking of donating and whether you want to be an anonymous or known donor, and keep in touch or not? My clinic here only accepts known donors. Everyone will have an opinion, you just need to decide how you feel first.

If you are still interseted you should make an appointment with you local IVF clinic and just see how you are treated and what information they tell you. My clinic is running a seminor on egg donation on 20 March so I will have more infor from them then.

I hope this helps - I dont think I have forgotten anything major but if so, I am sure somone will tell us!
I jsut want to thank you for showing and interest - your an
