my first born daughter was 10 days overdue induced with gel and came into the world screaming 2hr 50 min after the first contraction. a natural v/ birth.

no.2 wanted out! from 28 weeks to 34weeks my contractions were stopped three times. the 4th time i was 6cm. my waters were broken and she was born 18 min later. another v/birth.she stopped breathing within minutes of being placed on me and was given oxygen and taken to SCN

no 3, my first son, was born at 32 weeks when my waters suddenly broke and he was breech. he came into the world by c-section and was walked out the room and into NICU.

all through this pregnancy i worried about it ending in a c-sect more so when the baby sat in the breech position for weeks. i rejoiced at making it to 30 weeks then counted each week a blessing. i made it to full term and then went over due..but the triumph was having a vaginal birth and a healthy, pink, crying baby put on my chest.

this is the story of the birth of little Eli....

we had family visiting and so spent the day at a wildlife park. i was hoping a day full of walking would do the trick. i had just told the obs what to do with his induction date so i was hoping i wouldnt have to waddle into his room the next week still preg! we got home late and i was doing the bathing rounds with the older kids and making them hurry as i was feeling alot of pressure and wanted them in bed incase we had to go to hospital. dp had been sick with the flu so was sleeping on the pull out. i got into bed with him about 11pm and told him my cervix was hurting..i took some panadol and went to bed. i woke at 1am and stayed in bed til i was sure what i was feeling was contractions as they seemed to be in my c-sect scar and cervix rather than waves across my belly like my others. they were 3 min apart i woke my mother at 1:30 and she got the kids ready. i woke dp and asked him to take dd and ds to our friends house. dd8 was coming with us to watch the birth. dp put the kettle on and had a shower! i had to hurry him up and still he fussed around asking what shirt he should wear! he asked if i thought it was really "it" and i told him it was and the baby would be here by breakfast! but only when i said id drive the kids over myself did he hurry!
i wanted to stay at home as long as i could as i didnt want to be in bed on the monitor for hours at the hospital. i rang them to tell them i was in labour and would see them when i felt the need to come in. i chatted with dd inbetween contractions and raced off to my dark bedroom to rock through each contraction. just after 3am i decided it was time to go we txt dds support person on the way to the hospital.

when we got there the midwife told me i had to go on the monitor for 30 min then i could use the bathroom and had to be back on the monitor. the contractions slowed right down so after the 30 min i told the other midwife id like to shower. dp came in with me and we talked a bit and just relaxed and let the contractions take hold. after an hour the m/w said my 5 min was up! bless her. we came back out to the room and she had turned off the lights and sat behind me holding the monitor against my belly as i rocked leaning into dps chest through each contraction. when i started to bear down during the contractions i felt the need to get on the bed ( i suddenly remembered dd2 shooting out like a missile!) the pain was all in my tail bone and being on the bed didnt help. i was lifting my bottom with every contraction. my waters broke with a great big gush at 6:10 am and i looked at the clock and said not long now.the midwife gave me the gas to use as i started to get the urge to push with some of the contractions. i felt the head coming down and that feeling of pressure. i was telling dp that it hurt so bad something wasnt quite right! the m/w was saying the head was crowning and that it would start to sting soon. dd, her support person and my mother were coming in and out checking how close we were and then the midwife gave the nod for them to stay. dd s s/p was taking pics and took turns with grandma to cuddle her and talk to her.. while i ripped at dps arms through every push! the pain from the head was so much worse than dds' births and we knew why when he came out looking UP at everyone!
i heard his cry and felt his warm wet body on my chest...and he continued to cry. no oxygen no they didnt even suction him. i was so overwhelmed i was saying to dp "oh my God hes breathing on his own! i cant believe im holding him!"
this dear little baby of mine had just given me all my wants and hopes of my last two births and his.
they let his cord pulsate as id wanted and dd cut his cord. he was left on my chest just as id dreamed would happen. he stayed there for over an hour. dp made the happy phone calls and dd,her s/p and grandma went home to sleep. sometime later the m/w weighed him -7lb 11oz and 52cm and then dp had his first hold and as i went to the shower i could hear him singing to our little boy.

all in all it was a fantastic birth. id wanted to feel that "ring of fire" one last time. id wanted to feel that final push and the body coming out.

we came home after 6 hours. after having the last two in SCN and NICU it was just the best feeling ever to walk out of that hospital holding my big healthy full term baby...and the VBAC was just the icing on the cake!

You are wonder woman Kay.

Your birth stor moved me to tears- i cant believe, that eading your story, the times and thigs are almost identical to mine and our babies were born 20 mins apart. Not to mention the fact that we were TXT buddies and both delivered on the same day LOL.

Your story is so inspiring-im so happy for you that you got your desired outcome!
