Hi
I've been reading this forums for a LONG time, but this is the first time I have posted.
I started DS who is 8 weeks old on K Anti Reflux formula 2 days ago. Yesterday his poos were normal formula poos....the past two nappy changes have been more like yellow breastfed baby poos. Has anyone else had this happen? I also did give him several drinks of boiled water yesterday to try and prevent constipation. He still seems content and is weeing as normal. He is also on Zantac for his reflux.
I really don't want to take him off the formula if I can help it because it has stopped his constant spewing/spitting up.
Thanks in advance.
Mel
Hi Mel
Thanks for contacting our organisation.
It is good that he remains content and that the AR formula has stopped his vomiting. I’m sure that has offered a great deal of relief for you. The change in bowel motions is interesting; I haven’t heard of AR formula causing exactly that issue, but all our children are different, and they can have different issues, and different responses to treatments.
I’m not sure with your message if you had been breastfeeding prior to introducing the AR formula, or whether you were bottle feeding. If you were breastfeeding, I don’t really know how long it would take to show a change in their bowel motions. Perhaps they will be inconsistent for a few days yet? What have they been like since you posted?
As far as I know, yellow isn’t a problem for a bottle fed baby. Could it perhaps be runny because of the extra water you gave him? Or are your instincts telling you it is much more than that?
If so, I would recommend you talk to your doctor about your concerns. Let your instincts guide you, and if you feel that something isn’t right, it is best to discuss it with them. They may be able to figure out what’s going on, or may at least be able to give you peace of mind.
Do you think it is possible it is unrelated to the change in formula? How long has he been taking Zantac? I would presume a lot longer than a few days or you would have mentioned that as well. If it has been only a short period of time, I wonder whether it is a side effect of his Zantac.
I honestly don’t know what else, but he is content, and is weeing okay, so that’s good. Perhaps it may be okay to wait a little while to see if it settles down, but if you are still feeling uncomfortable about the change, please seek medical advice just in case. (I would be curious to know if it does settle down too.)
If it continues, or worsens, then of course seek medical advice. If so, what comes to mind is whether he has managed to pick up some kind of bug coincidentally, or whether he has some food sensitivities.
I hope that helps- but sometimes it's a guessing game just trying to work out what on earth is going on!! I wish you all the best trying to find the answers.

Thanks for the speedy reply Glenda.
In answer to your questions, he has been bottlefed for nearly 4 weeks now and had the normal plasticine poos prior and he has been on Zantac for a week. Since early yesterday afternoon he didn't have another bowel motion until this morning and again it was, I guess I shouldn't say runny it is more like a thick paste. I'm going to the doctor's tonight just to check there isn't something else I need to consider - plus it is very hot in Adelaide at the moment and don't want him getting dehydrated. I'm assuming it is just his reaction to the formula, but will let you know what the doctor says.
Thanks for the advice and support.

Hi Mel,
I hope the doctor's appointment goes well, and you get some answers, or some peace of mind at least.
