For the third time this week, Liam has refused a day sleep. Each time I try to settle him he bounds around, flings himself around the room, giggles at everything and has a permagrin on his face. He doesn't cry, he just wans to play all day long.
He needs the daytime sleep or else he is uber cranky in the evenings. He normally takes a 3 hour nap at 1pm on good days.
Could this be a food reaction, or just personality? He tends to do it only at home away from strangers - he is very shy. Some days he is so quiet and peaceful, a lot of days he is not.
I just really need some advice on how to cope and manage with this behaviour!
hun you are preaching to the choir! except mine is a little girl who is half a month off being 12 months! please someone tell us the answers mummy is tired

My son stopped having day naps at around this age, he is now 19 months, and has a sleep at 9.30am, and then at 3.30pm.....only at home though......
And they last a couple of hours...so there is hope out there for you all....

He started having naps again, at around 15 months....or so...... He would occassionally (once in a blue moon) have little 15 mins before then, but good naps I had to persist with him, telling him to "go ni-nights"....or "you need to have a sleep, mummies tired and so are you".......
It eventually happened...and I was sooooo relieved

Having the same problem here! He will go down at around 9 and sleep for a couple of hours but then he is up for the rest of the day. He wakes up at 5 ish in the morning and doesn't settle down again until 9ish at night. Anyone had any luck with keeping a tired baby up and then trying to just get one big sleep in the middle of the day? He is so tired and whinny of an afternoon but he WILLNOT sleep! I feel for you I really do!

The only thing I can suggest is read to him a bit to 'settle him down' and then put him to bed for a nap - try the nap about 15/30 mins later than usual, he may not be as tired during the day as he used to.

My DD is 2 soon and she has been super active since she taught hrself how to move !!!!
at around 12 months old, maybe 4 out of 7 days she wouldnt have a day sleep but it meant she would CRASH out at about 6:30 and sleep for over 12 hrs.
we managed like that for the next 4 or 5 months
someone told me that from 'now on you have to change your expectations on what your baby will do, just consider her another awake member of the family.' and i was like oh ok ! so i 'sorta' stopped worrying so much about her getting sleep and me getting sleep. I think i bought heaps of berocca instead
for the last 5 months she has been sleeping really well after lunch fr about 2 hrs at a time now. Thanx to the daycare routines she has been rescheduled.
She is still a super energizer bunny though but at least she does have some rest now to recharge
