View Full Version : induction vs natural birth
Is there anyone out there who has gone into labour on their own as well as having to be induced in another birth?
I am hoping to come on naturally this time and my only experience of labour is after being induced. Is there much difference in pain etc? What should I expect, contraction wise, in the first stages of a natural birth ??
So many women are being induced at the moment and they seem so anxious and afraid. Really is there that much difference??
I look forward to reading anyones experience.
Thankx

i've been induced twice and had one natural, I would opt for natrual every day, even though it was my longest labour the contractions were less intence and wern't on top of each other, if your looking at being induced, get them to check if your dialated at all, if you are dialated 3cms then they can break your waters, which natrually induces your labour and is a wee bit better
Hi Gizmo,
Unfortunately I have also had a csec so no more inductions for me. I am just curious just in case :fingerscrossed: I go on my own this time. I have already dilated 2 cm so maybe I can ask them if they can break my waters instead. Less intense contractions sounds good to me!!
I see that you are "in a house on the gold coast" did you have your babies at the gold coast hosp?

Hey mumzi - I'm being induced tomorrow. I'm 2cm dilated, and they've said they'll just break my waters and see how I go from there as I look 'ready to go'.
I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that I can go natural from there, without the drip.
Good luck...!

I had my first 2 induced and went naturally with my last. I would choose natural over induction any day if it was a choice...lol
I can only suggest to you to just relax and have a bit of faith in your body and your baby and know that they know what they are doing. It will happen.
All the best.

mumzi, if your 2cm already then just ask if they will do it, cause you've had a c sect you'll be closely monitored, natrual is the way to go if poss, but unfortunally its not always the case as you know already
I had my last boy at GC, the other 2 I had in NZ, I take it your birthing at the GC hosp?
good luck with everything and I hope that the waters breaking is all you need to get you started
NoMoreScuba good luck to to you, hope you don't need the drip too
Hi Gizmo,
Thanks for the advice. I will ask tomorrow at the hospital about having my waters broken.
Yes I am having bubs at the gold coast hosp. so I don't know what their policy will be in breaking my waters.
Maybe bubs will come tonight........ I say this every night!!!
Hi NoMoreScuba,
Good luck with tomorrows induction. When I was induced with my first child I was only 2cm dilated and I had him in 4 hours from start to finish that was a good side of being induced I guess going on what Gizmo had to say about her experiences. I hope you go into labour tonight to avoid being induced.
I know you are probably freaking right now but get some rest tonight you'll need it.
I look forward to reading your birth story.
Big hugs and goodnight

Hi em's&callansmum
Sorry to double post my 7 year old keeps interrupting my trail of thought. Thanks for your thoughts. You are right I should just have faith in my body and my baby.
Something I just keep forgetting in my impatience.
Thanks for the reminder :hugs:

Thanks for the support guys, I think it's going to be so hard to sleep tonight, I'm so excited!
I hope you get the birth you want mumzi, I'll look forward to checking your progress when I return from the hospital.
My first was natural and my second and third were induced. My first was long - 36 hours and my 2nd and 3rd were two hours each. I was induced just with the prostin gel each time and went into labour some hours after the gel was applied. I found the 2nd quite out of control, intense and painful, but was really well prepared for the third and found it an amazing, empowering experience. I was focussed, didn't use drugs, and came out of it on an absolute high. So - the moral of my story - don't stress about induction - go in being positive and focussed and you can have a positive birth experience!

I had a natural 14 hour labour with DD and came out with 3rd degree tears. I laboured without any pain relief at all (not even gas!) and really struggled towards the end, but got there!
With DS I was induced at 9 days over and managed to get to 7cms without any pain relief. But then bubs decided to turn posterior on his own and managed to get the cord around his neck. I had an epidural (which was great!) and around 1.5 hours later gave birth to him without any complications apart from the cord. He was given Apgar scores of 9 then 10!
I'd not hesitate being induced again because of my positive experience :D
Good luck!
