God this is so embarassing. I've been doing my exercises but this morning when I sneezed I couldn't control my pelvic floors. It's never happened to me before....does this happen during pregnancy? Should I see a doctor or just join a gym class? Ive been doing the kegels ...i thought the weakening only happenedafter childbirth.

The pressure thats developed over the past few months is pretty significant. R u doing ur pelvic floor exercises 6 times a day? I do a pilates class and they tell us to do them 10 at a time, 6 times a day. Seems like a lots but it helps.

I know what you mean, it's been happening to me too! I have been doing my pelvic floors too, but i rember it happening last pregnancy too. The good news is as soon as i wasn't pregnant again it didn't happen, phew!
Try and do more pelvic floors, that will help a bit, but may not make it go away completely. Also of course try not to 'hold on' and put off going to the toilet much, as tha obviously seems to make it worse (does for me anyway)
:hugs: Hun you are not alone! :hugs:

Are you doing them properly. Doing them more often and more of them can actually tire and overwork the muscles.
Just a refresher for you . (I'm a Continence Nurse)
First identify the muscles properly that you need to exercise. You can try to stop a wee midstream when you're on the toilet. This is the muscle you need to exercise (but not by doing that ...that's just to find out the right muscle).
There are 2 sorts
1. Fast Pelvic floor muscle exercises.
Squeeze the muscle at the front (as explained above) And the muscle at the back (like you are trying not to pass wind) and relax. Squeeze and relax. A person with a strong pelvic floor should be able to do this 10 in a row. NEVER do any more than 10 in a row. If you can't do 10 try 3 or 4 in a row for a week and gradually build up to 10 over a few weeks. Do this at least 3 times a day while you are sitting, lying down, standing, at a red light etc.
2. Slow Pelvic floor muscle exercises
Squeeze the muscles as in exercise 1 and also lift the whole group of muscles up towards your belly button. You don't have to hold your breath. Just breathe normally. Nobody should be able to even tell that you are doing them.
Hold for the count of 10 then relax. Repeat 10 times. Do at least 3 times a day.
As for Exercise 1, if you can't hold for the count of 10 and do 10 in a row, try starting at holding for the count of 3 or 4 and doinf 3 or 4 in a row. Build up to the maximum over a few weeks. You CAN overdo these exercises.
Find your level of Pelvic floor fitness and start there
Good Luck with it.
These exercises are ones that all women need to do for the rest of their lives. :)
Please explain them to your mums and MIL and sisters and Grandmothers etc. and we'll all be continent in our old age (no more nappies!) Yay!:smiliedance::smiliedance::smiliedance:

Definately not alone !
I started a thread about this about a month ago !
I lost a lot of my pelvic floor muscles due to a hard birth that resulted in bad tearing etc plus having a big baby didnt help.
So since then i have had dramas when i sneezed etc but since falling pg again its gotten a lot worse.
I have Hyperemesis again with this pregnancy so nearly everytime i vomit i have bladder loss. Very embarassing & upsetting.
The baby is causing extra stress on your muscles so keep doing your kegels its very important but mostly dont stress as you will find all will go back to normal after your pregnancy !

I have suffered congestion and sneezing constantly this pregnancy, so am sneezing all day sooooooooooooooooooo annoying!! everytime I have to clench really tight in order to hold my wee in.
The other day I sneezed at the same time as I was about to sit down on the loo and lost a little bit of control, I was like hey thats not fair bad timing!
I am bad, I havent been doing exercises. I should start now, I dont want to be incontinent one day.:(

ditto....i noticed the muscles were weakening and have been dilligently exercising since. If you're having sex use this as an opportunity to strengthen the muscles.
