what is it anyway? you know, how did it start? We don't celebrate it, but have sometimes used it as an excuse for a nice day together. To me it's like Halloween, totally irrelevent.;)

LOL We have never celebrated it, it's too close to my Birthday. Although this morning I did send DH a text saying: "Happy Valentine's Day, I brought you a car:p" (We brought a new car yesterday:D)

I have also told DH I would rather flowers, chocolates, romantic dinner etc for no reason at all then some day that is there mainly for commercial reasons.

what is it anyway?

It's a marketing ploy......to fill the marketing void between christmas and Easter.

They'll cook up somethibg else to fill the gap between Mother's Day and Father's day soon enough.......no, hang on - that's the stocktake sales!

Saint V@lentine's Day or V@lentine's Day is on February 14. It is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other; sending V@lentine's cards, candy, or donations to charities, often anonymously. It is very common to present flowers on V@lentine's Day. The holiday is named after two men, both Christian martyrs named V@lentine. The day became associated with romantic love in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.

The first recorded association of V@lentine's Day with romantic love is in Parlement of Foules (1382) by Geoffrey Chaucer:[1]

For this was on seynt Volantynys day
Whan euery bryd comyth there to chese [chose] his make [mate].
This poem was written to honor the first anniversary of the engagement of King Richard II of England to Anne of Bohemia[4]. A treaty providing for a marriage was signed on May 2, 1381.[5] (When they were married eight months later, he was 13 or 14. She was 14.)

I'm still not sure where it came from...

Are you serious? That's just terrible. Happy Birthday anyway :-)

Personally I dont mind Valentine's Day etc (not so much halloween unless we live in the US haha) even if my DH didnt get me any flowers today I would still be happy to others who celebrate it :)

I'd rather have my son to see Valentine's the celebration of love than watching horible news about war, etc....no way
