Months ago I saw a thread about soy milk, pros and cons and I can't find it for the life of me. I think I must be blind. I tried searching, but apparently 'soy' it too short or common a word...

Anyway I once tried some formula with bubs cereal and it gave him a rash around his mouth. He wasn't bothered by it (that I could tell) but I didn't like the idea of it causing him a rash. So I have been using soy milk in his cereal and custard. It seems fine and he is enjoying it.

have never gotten him tested to see if there is something he is allergic to in the formula (or cows milk - this gave him a rash too) but am just wondering if anyone out there has any advice to offer regarding soy milk. He is 9 months old now, and when he gets to 12 months we have the question of what milk will he drink (once he stops breastfeeding). Neither hubby or I are big cows milk drinkers, so wondering if its ok to stick with soy, seeing as we know he likes it?

I hope this makes sense, my head is all fuzzy today.

My kids are 3.5 and 2 years and have been on Soy milk / Formula since they were very young. My kids have severe milk allergies (dairy protein) and this is the reason why, but there have been no ill affects to either of them. Alot of the time BEFORE i put my son on the soy I heard terrible stories bout the lack of calcium, high sugars, blah, blah, blah ..... I find that they thrive JUST as much on the soy as a "normal" child does on dairy, and no overweight issues!!

Soy is great. I have an 11 year old son who when born was put on the breast only to have either cronic constipation and screaming all night or severe diorreah the rest of the time. I struggled for 6 weeks then went to normal formula. Well it made him smell like a cheese factory and throw up each and every feed. Then 2 weeks later my soft skinned baby turned into a spotty monster from head to toe. After many specialists said he had reflux and a cronic case of eczma, at 5 months old, I went to a local GP who simply said could he be lactose intolerent?
I went and purchased soy formula for him and gave him his first bottle of it. It was like giving him a bottle of rum! He slept for his first night through, stopped throwing up and his skin cleared up in a month.
He has never known any different and still drinks soy milk, eats soy custard, soy ice cream and soy yogurt and has had many a typical boy accident but not broken a bone yet. I am so gratefull for that GP, it put an end to a nightmare and I have never looked back. He is very healthy, bright, strong and normal. He is proof that 11 years of soy is just as good as dairy for growth and development when its not possible for one to consume it. LOL and hugz Kathy.
