Just putting this “out there” in the hope that someone has trodden the path before me!
As many of you know, we have a highly energetic and spirited boy. After living with this “spirit” for nearly three years now, DH and I know most of the triggers that will set him off. We have found that anything outside his routine whether it be a situation, place or person can send him into sensory overload. We prepare him as best we can … “We’re going to the shops this afternoon” “Your friend xxxx is coming over later today” … but there are always going to be times when you can’t prepare.
Does anyone else have a child who finds life so confronting at times that they are unable to cope resulting in aggressive, defiant, destructive or overtly silly behaviour?
He is an inherently good and kind boy but it worries me greatly that he won’t grow out of his inability to deal with what life will present to him.
Tips from anyone with a boy like mine or perhaps even the objective opinion of someone who doesn’t!

Duly done Sopoli. Inspire me!
Deb..I feel mine will be the same. His level of communication at present is screaming. he screams (shrill and loud) for pleasure, for attention, for fun, for tantrums....for whatever.
he hangs off my leg, my skirt, my whatever and screams..gets the huffy puffy's and it just gets louder and louder. I frown at him and ignore the behaviour..but it turns into an all out tantie.
He's being doing this for feed times too..if I don't feed him fast enough: because the food is hot...he screams wails and howls like I was beating him..
All this for nearly 11 months.
Hmmmmmmm.
O's mom.

Bummer O's mum. Tell you what though ... the little blighters keep you on your toes! Feelin' mighty sprightly these days. If I find a cure I'll let you know.
oh debs, fraid i cant offer any help, only support. I have had the same problems with Thomas and he is now 9, it can be so draining, and some days i just feel lke i am at my wits end. Cooper, although extremely spirited, cheeky and active, can adapt to and cope with change and other things much better than Thomas can, I am actually thinking of taking him to see someone who specialises in childrens counselling or something, because i dont really know what to do. He can be a lovely sweet little boy, and he has a good heart, but it is like he is dr jekyll and mr hyde sometimes!!!

Hi Deb,
Without getting too hippy-ish on you - do you think he's an Indigo Child? I was just reading this a few days ago, and it seems to fit.
(sorry, the link wasn't working for me  )

This is, of course, without me knowing Ben like you do!!

Erin - thanks for the support, and yes it's bloody exhausting!!!
Nickster - funny you should mention that. I've looked into it before and yes, I believe he possesses most if not all of the characteristics of the Indigo Child although I'm sure there are other names for it. I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised with some of the traits as I'm hypersensitive and perceptive myself. He's a wise little soul who we say was brought here to teach us ... not the other way around. I think he's been here a few more times - I think he mocks my clumsy attempts at parenting me in private - bless him.

Oh, yes, I definitely agree there. They are all here to teach us.....and how wonderful that you are attuned to that. :)
