Is anyone on thyroxine for hypothyroidism who can give me some hope?

I have had an underactive thyroid for a while but have only just started taking thyroxine. My FS has given me 1-2 months to get ovulating before trying FDs. I am a little concerned at the high twinning rate (7%) with FDs as I already have one set of twins (concieved naturally) and don't know if I am ready to face another set yet...

SO, I was wondering how long it took for the thyroxine to settle your cycle down and begin ovulating? How many times did you adjust the amount you are taking? And how long before you started feeling human again? And did it make a big difference? :fingerscrossed:

It really depends on where you are starting from. What is your TSH level?

Mine started at 91 so it took months to get it down to a decent level. I then went off my medication for 3 weeks (thinking I was cured:gloomy: ) and ended up stuffing up my cycle for over a year.

We changed meds levels twice in that time. It normally takes 6 weeks for the meds to build up enough to have a major effect but there is always some tweaking to be done after that.

On no, what does it have to do with ttc??
Dont you ovulate when the thyroid isnt working??

Sorry for all the questions but I've only been on it for about 2 months & we are ttc #3, I didnt realise it affected anything.

Oh my TSH lever was 170.

Yes, unfortunately hypothyroidism can prevent you from ovulating. It also causes an increased risk of PCOS.

The fact that you have identified it and it is being treated through is excellent. Once treated, it can improve. Speak to your OB about it (if you have one) as they will work with you to follow your thyroid levels and make recommendations. A thyroid-empathetic GP and OB are essential:thumbsup:

TSH of 170  Wow, mine was the highest my GP had ever seen and I was extremely ill. You poor thing - hopefully you're already starting to feel better.:hugs:

Well how rude my GP know's we are TTC and didn't happen to mention anything (I dont think he likes us!!) All he said was "I dont know how you got pregnant in the first place" So at least there is hope out there for you girls!
