Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to share this with you as the effects are already showing in our house!!
Here in WA the Cockies are all flocking and flying around in large numbers, they are everywhere, my son, aged 4, asked today why this was, i was a bit stumped (and still am if the truth be known!) but my friend who had popped in for a coffee replied.........They are Santas helpers and this time of year they fly around checking that all the children are being good, if they are not they will tell Santa!!!
DS looked up, smiled and started to tidy up his toys that i had been asking him to do for the last hour!!
I am hoping i am onto a good thing!!
It really made my day, have a good one! :)

I hope were talking buzzards here..otherwise this is gonna sound a little silly.

Maybe something is in seed...or ready for harvest. That should about do it every time.
Ask a farmer...I'd bet they'd know.

theyre all flying cause the majority of girl cockies have just become or are about to become mummy cockies so all the daddy cockies and the mummy cockies are flying around getting lots of food to feed the bubs. Hope this helped although I llike your santa theory better :)

We have a lot of black cockatoos flying around at the moment. I think it is because a lot of trees are coming into seed. Plus they steal the corn out of the horse feed as well. Hmm I'm not sure :)

I was told that along with it being spring (new babies and the such) its also the weather. The old farmers swear that the cockies are like weather vanes, they fly in circles when the rains are coming, or flit back and forth during long spells. and when a storm is coming they will go absolutely beserk for around an hour then go deathly quiet!!

The black cockies are meant to signal rain I think too Eleanor.

Well, if they do signal rain, we've had a hell of a lot of it in the last few weeks :)
