Hi,
if you are getting him cremated maybe place his ashes in the bottom of a pot plant it is a beautiful way to remember them and everytime the plant flowers it brings back fond memories of your beloved friend, my boss makes a donation to the cancer council everytime we euthanase a pet and the cancer council sends the owner a card to say that even though this is a really traumatic thing to go thru know that your animals passing will help save lives, i feel very deeply for you, it is the hardest decision to make but know that you are lucky enough to be given the oppurtunity to end his suffering, my heart will be with you on friday, enjoy the itme you have left.

Rambos hip was dislocated as a pup and when it went back into place it took a chunk out of the bone so it doesnt sit in the joint properly and yes the vet loves him also and has tried everything to help him. We have a wonderful vet
Thanks for your warm comments they mean a lot :hugs:

Yeah a friend is watching the kids and hubby is coming with me.
I was the one who caught him when he was born from my mums litter as it was her first and his mum freaked. So i definatly want to be with him and hold him to the end as i did in the begining.:crying:
:hugs: to you hun
I remember when we had to put my two very faithful dogs down one when I was just newly pregnant he was 17 years old and hip problems, blind, and some other health problems. Toward the end he couldn't walk, eat and his bladder kept failing on him. I was a right mess. He refused to eat the day before we put him down and I tried to hand feed him and he just licked my hand and gave me a feeble doggy smile and put his head down. My parents put him down when I was at work the next day and I was absolute mess and couldn't work :( :crying: .
My female dog we put her down 6 months later and she was nearly 18 years old and she was blind, hip problems but she was faithful to the very end. We got some photos of her with Jess (Jess was about 2 months old) just before we put her down.
Just remember somewhere out there is a doggy heaven and they are not in pain anymore and they can act like puppies again.

God I just dont know how you are dealing with this. I am teary just thinking that YOU have to put your much loved animal down.
My puppy had to have a tablet at the vets this morning and I think the vet was a bit too rough and shoved it down his throat and Coco was choking and crying so then I started crying.
What your about to do is sooooooooo much worse. :crying:

"A Pet's Prayer".
If it should be that I grow frail and weak,
and pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this , the last battle, cant be won.
You will be sad, I understand,
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship stand the test.
We've had so many happy years,
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer, so,
When the time comes, please let me go.
Take me where my needs they tend,
only stay with me until the end,
and hold me firm and speak to me,
until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time that you will see,
It is a kindness you do for me.
Although my tail it's last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.
Don't grieve it should be you,
Who decides this thing to do.
We've been so close,we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.
Smile - for we walked together,
For a while.

I feel for you so much.As a vet nurse I see so much love ,and pain ,when loving owners say goodbye to their best friends, and having had to be in the same situation many times with my fur babies I sympathise with you completely.:crying:
This will be the hardest thing you will probably ever have to do, but remember it is also the most loving and respectful thing you can do for your beloved friend.

I will anxiousEm thanks:hugs:
I just found this poem and i cried so much thought i would share it
Treasured Friend
I lost a treasured friend today
The little dog who used to lay
His gentle head upon my knee
And share his silent thoughts with me...
He'll come no longer to my call
Retrieve no more his favorite ball
A voice far greater than my own
Has called him to His golden throne.
Although me eyes are filled with tears,
I thank Him for the happy years
He let him spend down here with me
And for his love and loyalty.
When it is time for me to go
And join him there, this much I know...
I shall not fear the transient dark
For he will greet me with his bark.

Rambox, I've just seen his photo and he is beautiful. I feel for you so much. Your poem is beautiful too.
Sometimes our clients will take their pets favourite treat and will offer that to them while they are put to sleep so that they are still enjoying the best things to the very end, and can help to calm some nerves too. Others just love to be held and stroked and talked to softly. He knows that you are with him and this will reassure him. I hope everything goes peacefully for Rambo. Pets are very perceptive, he knows that you are doing what is best for him.
Remember that you will have many people thinking of you and Rambo tomorrow, and wishing him a peaceful journey into his next wonderful life .
